So I work at a Local restaurant chain in town that's considered relatively mid scale. I worked at one of their locations from January to late May. I ended up moving and found another job for a about a month before deciding to reapply to the company I had worked at in the beginning of the year, just a different location. I got an interview and got hired on right away. The General manager had told me since I had only been away from the company for a month they still had all my stuff on file in their system. Okay, seemed cool, I really didn't think anything of it. Fastfarwad to now, I'm trying to do my taxes and I realized the numbers just didn't add up and seemed really low. So I did some more digging and figured out how to look at my pay stubs and the…
How to leave my job of almost 3 years?
I (30m) feel very done with the gas station I work at. Many of the coworkers there are some of my best friends and I know the work very well-I just can't take it anymore. The shifts gossip about other shifts all the time, people don't show up for their shifts frequently, turnover can be high and I'm constantly having to deal with ornery customers. Plus, there is a new assistant store manager that actually threatened several people with “contacting HR” for extremely minor things. One of those employees was on the phone with her mom for all of 5 minutes in a dead traffic moment of the shift. The other has a legitimate, documented medical condition that the manager weaponized to say they could be fired over it! I make $16 an hour there but I am not considered a manager. I've been offered but I just don't want…
People with money, by definition, decide if you're going to be a carpenter or a prostitute (see the title). They decide if your labor is going to be used to create new wealth (houses, infrastructure, factories, schools), or if you're going to be spreading your legs for a 300 pound greaseball you just met who doesn't want to use a condom. This is where literally all of my objections to the current system arise. Hedge funds could be using their massive financial power, their power to decide what millions of us do for a living, to drive us into professions that increase the wealth of the human species. What did they give us instead? Administrative bloat. Useless jobs. Or worse, we're creating stuff that actively makes the world a shittier place. Private prisons. The tobacco industry. Instagram. Hedge funds had the financial superpowers to be the heroes of our society.…
She’s basically been serving as the paralegal for a family owned law firm for the past two years on top of being the office admin and a veritable accountant to boot. She comes home on lunch breaks/at the end of the day in tears. She’s miserable, doing the jobs of five people for $54k a year. She’s always had a bad case of “eldest daughter” syndrome, and her workplace takes full advantage of that, but not anymore! It’s not even that her boss is particularly terrible, it’s just everyone decides to fuck off and pile the work on her. The actual paralegal hasn’t been back to the office in almost 2 years, shouldering her with all his shit, and yet he gets paid nearly $10k more than her?? Make it make sense. She’s sticking it out for a month more to stay on health insurance and get some stuff squared…
