the protestant work ethic is stupid
I work in a union manufacturing facility. This week, my line has been running like absolute dog shit. Maintenance has been working on it basically around the clock as we continue to run and scrap material that doesn't meet spec. Today, the line is pretty much back on track and whay does management decide to do? Order us to jack up the speed to make up for lost production. Problem being that these lines notoriously run like shit when you speed them up beyond a certain point so I am still looking product due to being out of spec or other quality related issues. My supervisor comes out fuming, yelling about still losing product, asking why, so on. I try to explain what's happening and he cuts me off threatening me with a write up if I don't start sending product. Luckily, we have this nice little form that effectively…
Most of the posts I see for this idea is four 10 hour days. It would be better to have 5 day work week with 4 or at max 6 hour days, with full time employment being 24 or 30 hours depending on day length. That is the law we should go for, not 40 hours just over 4 days.
Friend decided not to work.
This is actually about a friend of me and my brother who did one day on a job and never bothered calling in and saying that it wasn't for him. Please note that this happened in last year. This all starts off simply with who I'll call J needing a job. My brother who is a good friend of J offers him a job at the electrical company that he worked for. J agreed and needed cloths. So he and my brother go and get them some Walmart as all he had we not suitable for the job. J was given one task for the entire day: set up fuse boxes. He was shown how to do it and did it all day. He even grabbed a 5 gallon bucket for a seat. They wrap up with the work, J is dropped off, and my brother comes home. The next…
So why do you people dislike working?
I was browsing around Reddit, whenI suddenly ended up here Why do you people dislike working, or it has something to do with low salaries and stuff like this?
Seems like our Canadian friends know how to tell their government to sort shit out. On the other hand most people here seem to accept min wage jobs but just want a liveable wage. Is that really people's aspirations?

A few terms/things you should know. Buying power= this is basically how much you can buy with a given amount. Like lets say if you can buy 1 thing of gum with $1 today, but tomorrow it takes $2. The buying power of money decreases, where if tomorrow you can buy a thing of gum with 50 cents. The buying power increases. This is highly important because year over year, it is estimated you need to have a take home profit at minimum 5% more per year just to keep up with the prior rate of decrease buying power on average. Now it is closer to 15% or 20%. I don't know of a term for this, and looking into it I don't think there is even one. But basically you need to know how your pay in a given job/career field changes over time compared to the increase/decrease of…
So, I can't tell if I am crazy or not. So I applied for this job and it was posted online in the newspaper but then you had to go to the companies website and apply there. It said that the job was from $13-$15 an hour based on experience Okay, fine, so I go to the interview and one of the managers are interviewing me and it's going pretty well I think and they ask me how much I am asking for . I tell them that I want $15 an hour because I am a good worker and I have all this experience, yada yada yada…. And the hiring manager looks a little taken aback and she goes “We don't start at $15/hour. We never did. I don't think anyone here makes $15 an hour.” And I politely point out that on their website it says that the…
