Is it really not enough to just do your job at work, get paid, and go home?

Why does it seem like you have to make friends with everyone at work anymore these days? Why isn’t it enough that I am reliable, do my work efficiently, I am professional, and polite? My last job I got let go from because of “personality conflicts.” When actually I just didn’t put the company on a pedestal like they did themselves. A few of my co-workers bullied me. Their “training” was actually more like hazing. So I just kept to myself, did my work, was cordial and professional. Yet, I kept everyone at arm’s length. I was there to do a job, but I guess they wanted more. Just doing the job I was hired to do wasn’t enough. I didn’t want to jump right into the social culture. I quit my job yesterday

Quit my job yesterday. It’s extremely hard leaving a high paying job but respect is very important to me. I hope other employees demand the same from their managers. Not sure what the future will hold but I’m truly hoping everything works out.

Employers are spoiled and entitled

I'll try to keep this brief and concise. After reading a lot of posts here it dawned on me how shafted my generation has been. I was 21 when 9/11 happened. At the time the “dot com boom” was roaring and I was able to get some opportunities with my limited education and experience. Following 9/11 the economy went in the shitter. I went to college and “pulled myself up by my bootstraps ” only to re-enter the workforce in the housing crash/great recession mash-up. Again, shit prospects inspired me to return to school and pursue a graduate degree. I was lucky and managed to position myself well prior to completing grad school. Economic insecurity spurred me to latch on to stability instead of maximizing any potential. The current economy is the first time in 20 years I've seen workers have any power.
