January 6th I got injured at work. I tore a tendon while drilling into a truck body, and drs orders are for me not to use my hand at all. Let me preface this by saying, a few months after I joined this company, an older coworker (probably late 30s) injured his wrist, cause him to not be able to use his hand either. So for however many months, he hasn’t been doing anything. He’s been on his phone the whole day, everyday and the boss doesn’t care. Now fast forward back to me, still injured. (Mind you, he has since quit). I’m 21 years old and they are finding anything to make me busy with one hand. I’ve scrubbed the grease off the walls in the office, I’ve been sweeping and cleaning up the shop the whole entire time. I’ve basically been demoted to janitor with one hand. Everytime…
What she doesn't realize is that I took it well because I don't give a shit. I don't care. Oh I'm also on probation I guess? Idk I am already getting interview requests from indeed, and it hasn't even been a full 24 hours.
I was helping a friend of mine with some remodeling work, his dad owned the house. I came in to help demolish and then pull wire for the electrician and do some plumbing. His dad was impressed by how many skills I have and asked what i do for a living. I started talking about my various jobs, starting with my primary gig. He was like “I thought you did this” I was like yeah but I also do, this, this, and this. He got so confused that I do so many unrelated things for money. I’m just like how TF do you think I gained all these skills?
Working for the government
I just want to get a general sense of how people feel about working for the government. Not necessarily in the traditional sense of bureaucracy, but in the public service sense, like the National Park Service. I see a lot of people on here talking about how expensive housing is, how they aren’t getting paid enough, how they don’t have benefits, etc. I also struggled with those issues for SO long when I was working in the hospitality industry. Living in Southern California on minimum wage (while working for a VERY large, multi-billion dollar company) left me with $35 a week for food. I didn’t have health insurance and got a kidney infection and it costed me an arm and a leg. When I found out about the park service, and all of the things they offer (housing at a very cheap rate, health insurance, pay always above minimum wage,…
I work as middle management at a life sciences company who did 1b in revenue last year Last week our CEO stated twice during a town hall that we are having difficulty retaining and hiring talent. He then proceeded to tell everyone “the job market is too hot right now and I don't want to compete for talent. Instead we should double down on our mission to help patients.” Wow. Just wow It's incredibly painful as a manager to hear this. Not just myself but all of my team members have been contacted by recruiters, some have left for over 50% of a bump. For him to come out and say this is basically a nail in the coffin of anyone currently at the company. We already have huge turnover rates and more than 45% of people have been with the company for less than 1 year. When will these…
I work in a big IT company in my country, and started working there about 3 months ago in HD position, I was hired as an ERP specialist. This month (February) was the end of my internship and start of my actual work Leaving aside the fact I was in the air with half the tools I needed and was in the grace of my other coworkers for most of the tickets I'm getting today was the icing on the cake. I live about two town away which is normal here, but considering I have to rely on a bus that comes every 30 minutes means that I have to “choose” either to be in work in 7:30 am or 8:00 am (the moment work start, which doesn't give me time to boot up all the systems I need to start working with) so of course, I chose getting to…
