The Parable of The Mexican Fisherman And Investment Banker

An American investment banker was taking a much-needed vacation in a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. The boat had several large, fresh fish in it. The investment banker was impressed by the quality of the fish and asked the Mexican how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, “Only a little while.” The banker then asked why he didn’t stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican fisherman replied he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked “But what do you do with the rest of your time?” The Mexican fisherman replied, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos: I have a full and busy life, señor.” The investment…

Ghosted twice

Found a really great job, interviewed twice, recruiter loved my background, said I had too much experience for offered job but she wanted to talk with senior management about finding a role for me. Ghosted me for 2 weeks. Emailed me back saying they had a recruitment pause but I'm an amazing candidate and she plans to speak to senior management about finding a role for me and she would get back to me no later than Wednesday (3 days later). I followed up, nothing. Now it's been 2 weeks again. This obviously seems like a red flag but the company has nothing but great reviews on Indeed and GlassDoor. They're not a startup. I know I should just move on but I was so excited about this company. Should I reach out again? Or truly just move on?

More Time to Write Literature for Fun!

When it comes to a having a society that doesn't require coerced, daunting labor, writers like myself can finally have all the time of day to write our stories. We can finally have the time to write satires about everyday when people have to go to work to earn a living. I can finally write the poems and short stories that pertains to my vision, without some douchebag trying to degrade me because I don't have a “job.” What do you guys think? Please let me know.

My GM is making me give a presentation to District Director and 10+ other GMs!

My General Manager gave me this assignment with no direction. I basically was told “Make it under 15 minutes.” I was not assigned a topic nor given any guidance. This is a paid gig and I will also be paid hourly for my time creating it and researching it so I dont really mind lecturing a bunch of big wigs when I have no rightful spot to do so. My initial thought was to make the presentation on Turnover. First, I wanted to talk about interviewing and how it's now important to sell the brand with so much competition. Next, I would focus on proper and adequate training. Lastly, I would talk about motivating staff without using a pizza party. What do you think about this situation Ive been put in? What would you say to a room of big wigs if you had the chance? Is my topic too…

Doordash is killing me

Doordash is killing me. For the past few years Doordash and Uber Eats were and still are my only source of income. Living with my parents, I'm in heavy credit debt and no savings. I'm so lost right now. I'm 30 years old.

Lost my dream job because the new CEO doesn’t ‘get’ what I do

This is a bit of a weird one. I left my previous job as my boss was a psycho, the company was headquartered in another country and he ran our lab like it was is own personal empire. I wanted out so took a job with an environmental charity who was expanding into producing their own scientific research. The pay was half of what I was making previously but they offered decent benefits, flexible working hours and 7 weeks PTO. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of the job, the lab was still being built and the overall goals were very loose but it was an exit. It turned out to be my dream job! Over 3 years we built the lab to study and improve food security. We started producing some really well received work and saw our rep go from nothing to something that everyone wanted in…
