I made a comment earlier that outlined an issue I had with my employer and how I handled it. It struck a nerve with some people. The TLDR is I am a private person, when asked about my personal life I would politely decline or redirect the conversation elsewhere, my coworkers didn’t like that and decided to go to management. Management had a meeting with me where they told me to share intimate details of my life with my coworkers or I would be punished. So, I maliciously complied and when asked would make up stories to make them uncomfortable or my inherent introverted communication skills would make them uncomfortable. This continued for two months until the policy was ended. Here's what my company thinks is a great way to “celebrate” (they have a ridiculous point program in play): To celebrate Employee Appreciation Day we want to reward you for showing your peers appreciation. Any employee who sends a peer recognition in this Friday, March 4th, will be entered into a drawing for one of ten chances to win 5,000 Points. One entry per employee. By definition, “Employee Appreciation Day is an event, observed on the first Friday in March, meant for employers to give thanks or recognition to their employees.” Wow. THIS, from a company with thousands of employees globally. So to get a small fucking chance to earn 5,00 points, I, an employee, have to submit a blurb about another employee. Ummm…thanks?

So, I quit working in the hospitality trade last year (was a manager for many years) and currently I work in digital security (manufacturing) but the shift work does not agree with my messed up body clock at all. I do some freelance graphic design/illustration on the side but I don't have the experience to do that full time (that's the long term plan, but it's hard building a portfolio working shifts) I've no degrees or formal training but I'm a fast learner and have what can be described as a problem solving mind.

I work for (insert seasonal downtown Chicago company here) and they require their employees to wear jackets with their logo on it and these cost $150. What I’m wondering is: is it legal for a company to force its employees to either buy a jacket from One specific retailer that will put the logo on it or just freeze outside in their normal uniforms? (We also have to buy our normal uniforms) This company also is an “at will employment” company (employees can quit anytime without notice and the company can also terminate anyone for any reason with no notice) not sure if that makes any difference. His manager told him that if his coworker calls out he will have to come in on his day off or he’ll get written up. Is this legal?

I’ve only been in this position for a day and I’m already dreading it. I took the job because I was desperate to start working again and realized that it’s 30 minutes away from my home, it’s not in the field I even want to be in, and It’s more of a labor intensive job then what was advertised. I feel bad but I feel it’s better to quit before I get trained for no reason. Has anyone here ever quit within their first couple days/weeks? Not sure what to tell them either. I don’t know why I feel bad maybe because I wasted their and my time…. I feel sad like I’m just wandering anyone have any positive words?

Meanwhile my supervisor gets to walk a dog around the office and laugh around with other supervisors. I also asked for 30 hours instead of 40 to take care of a family member. they told me they CAN'T lower my quota and that it would be impossible. I offered to work from home part of the day, they told me they CAN'T have me working from home because it wouldn't be fair to everyone else. They wanna work something out but I have no idea what would work. These guys have also made me work in the office with a covid cough after I was working from home no issues hitting quota. Long story short, I’ve had 3 jobs in the past 2 years. It was 11 months, then 7 months because company relocated, took 3 months off because I was so disheartened and burned out, then current I’m 7 months in but it’s toxic, management is shitty, and training is mediocre like bad. 90% of the time I don’t know what’s happening and I’m faking it til I make it. Honestly, some of the coworkers are assholes like condescending and smartass es. So I work at fast food and today I had multiple managers tell me different things. We had a sale for hot dogs today and one manager said we can do it at the location and showed me how to do it on the computer system ((No one has told us about the sale untill people were asking.)) But as soon as a co worker asked for help and I helped him the other manager said we are making the sale online only. And this isn't the only time. I am in collage right now and have to leave early.
