Might have to unexpectedly having to quit my job but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea

I do a pot washing job and I hate it, stare at the same wall, same sink in the same room for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. It's driving me insane, I can just feel my mental health slipping away. Dirty plates, cutlery and pots, pans, etc none stop coming from a Conveyor belt. My personal hell, I've never thought I'd hate anything more in life. Theres no one to talk to there either so not like I can pass the time with someone either. I've only been doing this job for a month and a half now. Yesterday I got so close to just putting down what I was doing and leaving. Though the bigger issue is with getting to work and my manager. The company I work for has a private work bus that you have to book seats to get on, theres been some…

How to handle boss/owner stealing tips

I work at a local coffee shop, The owner bought the business about 20 years ago, and we currently have a staff of 3,myself included. The owner works with 1 barista Monday-Thursday, and then Fri/Sat it's 2 baristas. She intentionally does this to avoid hiring more staff. I like the position, I love my coworkers, and pay is $12+tips. We're supposed to be getting a raise this year but, doubtful. Long story short, the owner is struggling with finances which are not due to business, and I have a feeling we're very close to going under. Within the last few months I noticed my tips were MUCH lower than they should be, we've been incredibly busy and I'm making less than I was during our slow season. We had a market even for the holidays, it was me, another coworker on a double, and the owner. When we got back…

Time off requests blocked

So, today I put in a request for one day off next week. I figured its a week in advance it should be approved. I asked the manager why the schedule for last year was up on the bulletin board and not 2023. He went out and took a look. “Oh I don’t know where (so and so) puts the template.” He said to look on the schedule of all the employees. He pulled it down and showed me that the start date of the scheduled employees started 1/13/23 to (wait for it…) 2/23/23!!! I was like we can’t ask for time off for over a month and a half!???? I said “well, I’ll just call out then.” He went into like this panic or something and said “you don’t have to do that you can switch dates with someone” I was like, “nah Ill just call out.” He got…

Job role change

I’m a secretary with the largest law firm in America so I am at the lowest position in a company filled with rich arrogant pricks. Our receptionist recently quit and as a secretary it’s somehow my job to become the new receptionist? This was never listed in my job description and I chose my current job specifically because I didn’t have to work with clients directly. I’ve explained my concerns but HR is forcing this job change on me and they told me if I don’t want to do that job I can just resign. Obviously I will not be resigning, I’ll be refusing till they fire me so I can still get those unemployment benefits. I’m just wondering, can they legally do this? Force me into a completely new job? I’m at a loss as to how to handle this fucked uno situation.

It should be unlawful for a company to retaliate against you for working a second job, even if it’s for a competitor.

A few things, if your second job causes you to underperform at your primary job, i can understand penalizing you for poor performance. Or if you fail to notify your employers of the work schedule so you end up not showing up when scheduled. But to penalize someone solely for working a second job is cruel, especially if your first job doesn’t make enough to live off of. It’s like a giant fuck you and a good way to keep people from being unable to get out of poverty.

Our Manager Got Let Go

He was a decent guy and he had a role in the decision making for my hire. he was pretty big on Building a Relationship with Team and Caring About Team Building Events which I understand from a “this a family” perspective, but the reality is that we are not family and our co-workers need to be kept at an arms distance. Unfortunately these things happens and I even mentioned to another coworker in my team about a month ago how although I understood his optimism about the role, things can change and feeling comfortable is a mistake which we eventually pay the price for. Company loyality is a myth. If you are hired for a position, there is always someone above you that will have a hand of control in your personal life. I'm still not even past probation yet, but this reminded me that I need to keep…
