How do you pay your bills, rent, and basic survival utilties? What was the job and how much was your income? What was the reason you got that job in the first place? I know that some people don't have any skills, talents, or degrees. But if you don't have those things, how do you expect to make a living? Why do you think people would give you a wage to do whatever you want, live freely, if you aren't worth giving said sum of money? This is not a post bashing this subreddit AT all. I am in a similar position. I'm currently in high school. I have no talents, no skills, and my parents don't have enough money for college and I don't have the brains required for a scholarship. How would I survive after I move out? If I take a student loan, I'm sure as hell…
What are you all about?
Hey, I have been hearing a lot of things from this subreddit, ever since the infamous Fox News interview took place. I was honestly a bit thrown off by the name of the subreddit. I don't know what antiwork means? Do you guys literally mean that you guys don't want to work? Which if true, is kinda odd. I am the son of immigrants, so working has always been part of my life to a great extent. With an open mind, I will like to more about your arguments, and why work is bad.
Please help I don’t know what to do.
So last year in March I started this job in a Audio Video Equipment store as a sales person. It was going good for a while but then I got Covid and was quarantined for 3 weeks. I wanted to go back to work but my whole city went under a lockdown and then it opened in June as partially lockdown so I could only work 7.5 hrs instead of 10. But due to cut down hours they also cut my pay by 35%. I still stuck there cuz I wanted to learn and gain some experience. Now after working there for almost a year they are always harassing me and pointing out my minimal mistakes and cursing me always. When I joined this job there were 2 people including me as a sales person. But the other guy quit a few months ago and now all work and sales…
Don’t understand antiwork?
Hi, I am very frustrated when I see a group like this. I dropped out of private college at 19 because I was terrified of going into debt. Took 6 years working / schooling part time to get a math degree from state school not because I loved it but because it was difficult. I currently work at a top 5 bank as an analyst and literally all I want to do is contribute to the company, clock out, workout, and study stats/cs books. My philosophy of work to be the best I can be or die trying has given me SO much joy in life. I also suffer from major back pain at 25 years old which does not allow me to sit at all. I stand for about 15 hours a day and now that I cannot run anymore (my favorite thing in the world as a teenager)…
Im really curious to hear your stories, because I only get maybe one or two bad customers a day in my city. I live in Manitoba, Canada if that helps. I just wonder how bad it is for other people? Ive also noticed a majority of the rude customers I get are people in their 30s to 60s. Not important but just a little detail.
TW, DEATH – someone literally died
Edit: I hope this is appropriate to post. Idk. I’m just so upset and need to talk about this. Please delete if this violates any rules. I don’t even know where to start. I work at chili’s as a server and tonight an elderly woman passed away at one of my my tables (stopped responding/breathing, slumped over). Her family let me know what was going on and that they had called 911 and an ambulance was on the way. I let my manager know right away and tried to help the family as much as I could. My manager was literally just concerned with making sure everyone’s food got out, parties on the wait were sat, etc. I was crying and panicking because I’m 21 and have never seen anything like this before. It was this woman’s 97th birthday and I had just brought her her ice cream/birthday candle like…
Video games are the new opium of the masses. They distract us from the grind of laboring everyday of our lives. They are the product of a billion dollar industry designed to extract profit from our valuable free time. Worst of all they serve to condition us to do as we are told. Complete a task, gain a reward. Do it enough and you level up. Over and over and over. Then when you are done, buy a new game. Compete against your peers to win points. Complete the task. Level up. It’s brainwashing us to be good workers, while distracting us.
