During my interview in [expensive coastal city] in WA., I couldn’t believe the number of red flags. “It’s a family environment & we all help and fill in for each other” Another employee performs all services I’d be hired for, but which are not within the scope of their license “Are you married?” ”Have children?” “How old are you?” 🫣 “The starting wage in this area is $18” *Job posting listed as $22 My takeaway 1) Basically, they want to ensure that I have no obligations that would get in their way of churning & burning AND/ OR 2) Regardless if the questions are not purposefully discriminatory, I could reasonably expect zero professional boundaries. Can you imagine calling out sick at this place? 🤦️
Long story short: I’m an insurance producer and my boss is a loud mouth, judgmental, conservative who is running his business in the ground and I doubt it will stay afloat another couple of months because I have been carrying the weight of sales of 6 months. A giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am SO happy that today was my last day. He really didn’t even believe that I was leaving.

Reporting near misses (UK)
Thoughts on employers encouraging staff to not report near misses? Anyone else had this? I work at a very large hardware retailer and it seems to be common practice for people to not report near misses for fear of having stuff taken away. Retail colleagues will be familiar with the no stanley knife rule etc. Seems crazy to me this culture is so prevalent in workplaces where we get a few quid above minimum wage at most. Had a few close calls myself and to be honest its so against the grain I dont event want to report it for fear of looking like a do-gooder!
Just wondering if the day after Thanksgiving is considered a holiday for many companies in general. What about your companies, do they make you come out on the 25th? Or do they let you have the 5 day weekend?
Do I qualify for unemployment?
Live in Ohio and work(ed?) for a merchandising company. The company lost the contract for the stores that I work in and I have not been reassigned or even contacted. Haven't worked in a week and as previously stated, I haven't been contacted or formally fired. Just left in limbo. Should I file? I've asked everyone in my immediate orbit and no one has any idea. Thanks in advance, Reddit!
I just started at this job and haven’t worked long enough to build up sick time or PTO. Well I have used what little I had earned. I have gotten sick several times since starting, and every time I call out my supervisor tells me something along the lines of “Thanks for letting me know, but you have no sick time so, can you work these days instead?”. I work at a 24/7 facility, where all the hourly employees work 3 12hr shifts a week. Whenever I need time off, my schedule switches days so I can get my full time hours each week. I declined benefits, so I thought it’s really on me to get my hours, so if I call out I just won’t get any shifts and that it just hurts me. But that’s not the case at this job, I called out two shifts this week,…

My son, 19, works his first job at McDonald's in Canada. He's in school and on assistance so he has a very strict limit of 20 hours per week he can work. Of course management either gives him so few hours it's almost not worth the bus trip, or so many he has to put his foot down and decline shifts reminding them of his limitations Recently they decided to move him from tills to kitchen which requires more training. He's not excited for the prospect and he's at 20 hours so he can't stay late or work anymore hours. His witch of a manager asked him to stay off the clock but she'll adjust tomorrow. And “it will stay between us of couse” Y'all I couldn't be prouder of his reaction. He politely and professionally declined stating that no matter when she adjusts he would still be working off…
