Too many people my age (20s) are looking to do labor as their “passion” to fulfill themselves. Don’t do it. Nothing makes you hate your passion quicker than doing it 40+ hours per week. Find something you can clock in and out of, doesn’t have emotional power over you, and pays the bills so you can live how you want to live. And remember “work sucks”
I am a shift lead at a cannabis dispensary in a major US city, I work full time, and I make $19 an hour (which is just barely enough to cover my bills) My dispensary just sent out an email telling all staff that their time-off requests will be IMMEDIATELY and INDISCRIMINATELY denied unless the person putting in the request has enough PTO. Basically, no unpaid time off allowed; we own you and your time. I am a leftist and have been a member of antiwork for a long time, but I was also raised by Republicans who instilled in me the American work ethic. It's always been difficult for me to ask for what I need from my boss and advocate for myself in the workplace. For a minute, I considered keeping my head down and quietly looking for another job, but during the morning meeting yesterday I spoke…

Rules for termination
Can an employer fire you and refuse to tell you why or provide you with any information/documentation? State of Arkansas, it’s a right to work state, so I’m told they don’t have to have a reason to fire you, but then I’m told they do have to tell you why? I’m so confused.. ive been putting in 50-60 hours a week, working 3-4 different positions, and I have completed every single task and project and have had zero complaints, write ups, corrective action plans, etc.. Im literally the only person in the entire admin department that has a degree and im the only one who knew how to work several of the programs we use, including their reporting software. So my education/knowledge wasn’t an issue, nor was my performance.. so im at a loss. I know a few people didn’t like my direct boss and they fired him as well.…
A realization about work.
Labor equals money. Time does not equal money. Labor is all we have. I say we get together and figure out a way where labor does not equal money.
Im a fast learner, & dammit, a hard fucking worker at that just wants to have a non-toxic work environment!! Im tired of all the dumb office politics & fake, manipulative coworkers who cause drama just to watch the dominoes fall… & the micro- managers that don’t do what they say they’re going to. Why is it so hard to find companies who pay their employees what they’re worth and appreciate hard work?? They have to be out there, but the long tedious task of weeding out all the shit job postings to find something worth applying for is sooo exhausting! I just want a fulfilling job that gets it, ya know? That appreciates that I give my all & also still acknowledges that we’re all human too…. I thought Id found some place that could offer that, but in reality it was all a bunch of lies and careful…
