I was terminated from my Assistant Manager job for apparently using inappropriate language to female college employees. I was let go by the GM of stores after my immediate supervisor had written me up for a final warning. What I said in most cases was taken the wrong way. The students were simply upset. I support their right to complain but I was never offered any counseling to correct what was so offensive. I was fired over the phone by someone above my Supervisor who had gone on vacation. No severance package. I had always volunteered to work overtime and take the early shift to make it easier on my manager who I considered to be a good boss and told her several times. Now I’m interviewing for new work. How do you handle this frustration ???
I’ve only covered two shifts in the six months I worked at my last job. I still feel guilty though.
I work for a large nationwide corporation and drive a company vehicle to job sites around my state, usually racking up plenty of miles each day of my work week. Just yesterday I had vehicle maintenance performed which included oil change, new brake pads/rotors, tire rotation and 1 tire replaced based on tread depth. My manager scheduled this for half the day, I then had 2 job sites to get to in the afternoon. The vehicle maintenance ended up taking until 5:15pm when I finally got a call that my vehicle was out for a test drive and I could head that way to pick it up. Today I received a call from my manager saying that since I didn't work yesterday I would most likely need to take PTO for the entire day I “missed”. I had tried to set up a rental vehicle for this day a week…
Would it be a bad idea to always have a lawyer on hand at least? I’m seeing a lot of statements about HR not helping and for sure they work for the company.
I quit my job on the 27th of October. I received what I thought was my last paycheck but then less then 2 weeks later on 11/10/22 I got another small check for $365.55. I was like, well that’s wired well maybe its just the last bit they owe me because I quit in the middle of a pay period or something but I honestly wasn’t expecting anything else. But today, exactly a month later I got another small check from them for $226.21? Like I said I quit at the end of October so it’s been about a month and a half..I don’t even know what this could be from? Or who I should contact about this..I was literally only with the company for a month and a half before I quit. Lol
The Publishing Industry Broken
Don't misunderstand me, you guys in the States are having a truly bad time, but i think a country flair is required. The American experience is not a global one
Bonus Check
I was recently told what my Christmas bonus would be and this is my first time getting one with this company (haven’t worked here long), but I was told the employer won’t take any taxes out, I will just owe them back with my tax return. Is there an advantage to the employer by doing this?
Data and knowledge is helpful, however there are still unknowns with trying out new approaches. Essentially, people can take advantage of each other so that neither side really gains what they were hoping to out it. It’s relationally sick.
Actionable Steps?
Hi there, I know joining a union is one thing I can do but what else can I do to help these kinds of causes? I am burnt out, and yet I know I'm one of the lucky ones. I have a job that pays me well, in a field I chose, that I sometimes like, I have a home, and I can afford most of the things I need. Still, I am so exhausted. I need more time off instead of working crazy hours. What can I actually do about this? To help other people in the same position or worse than me? How can I help bring about a 4-day work week, or more vacation, or help others get better wages? How can I help make things better?
