I didn’t know where else to post. I’m in need of some links/suggestions for help with school supplies and things for my two children. I’m a server/bartender/former nurse who has had a rough year. I ended up sticking around in a place where I was guilted into not leaving and ultimately ran through my entire savings because we just don’t have the business, nor the hours. I have been paid 8k YTD since January. Because I work off tips, I have made SO much less than ever and did probably five times the work for the privilege. Covid really hit my area hard, and people just aren’t coming out. I’m not trying to get anyone to feel bad for me, just letting you know my situation. I have a disease that keeps me from working long hours now as I did in the past, or I’d just go back to…
A Bank of America executive stated that “we hope” working Americans will lose leverage in the labor market in a recent private memo obtained by The Intercept. Making predictions for clients about the U.S. economy over the next several years, the memo also noted that changes in the percentage of Americans seeking jobs “should help push up the unemployment rate.” The memo, a “Mid-year review” from June 17, was written by Ethan Harris, the head of global economics research for the corporation’s investment banking arm, Bank of America Securities. Its specific aspiration: “By the end of next year, we hope the ratio of job openings to unemployed is down to the more normal highs of the last business cycle.”
Considering quitting after only 3 days
got a job at a movie theater. So far this place has been horribly understaffed and by the end of the month 11 other coworkers will be leaving to go back to college or high school inclduing the only two crew leaders.leaving only 9 people working there. (Including managers) It's not that I can't handle the work but it's driving me insane having too many customers for not enough employees. Especially on Tuesdays when its discount day and in like 2-3 weeks we won't have enough people to meet those demands especially. Managers go and sit in the office all day unless you radio them out because corporate doesn't want them on the floor. The GM hasn't even taken the time to even meet me.One coworker last night even said if he was in my shoes he'd quit. My friend who works here (also leaving in a few weeks) says…
I totally feel the complains posted here, and I've felt many of them myself. But, I don't see any solution to this. Maybe, create my own company and be less of a shitty boss? But that only fixes the issue for me and those around me. What are the proposed solutions of this movement, that end up being fair to everyone, even bosses?
Brainwashed since school times
That's all, fuck that. Who in their right mind thinks slightly above minimum wage is “great pay”, considering the current economical outlook, rising cost of living, rising costs in everything basically. The rep basically cracked back at me that it's my opinion only and it is in fact great pay when some people are on less in the same work. (To clarify, this is 0.68c P/h above the legal minimum (AU). A whopping $5.50 approximately per day. Fuck companies for these bullshit and completely shit offers.)
5 years of loyalty, for nothing. Rant.
I work in tourism. I've been working in tourism for the last decade. I've given my last 4 winters to one company.. Covid and all. I shined my first year and was promoted to manager my next. I upgraded their entire system, worked over time for free, and spent the last two winters as a customer punching bag. Today I was told my position was being dissolved and they wouldn't be able to bring me back. I'm seasonal, so I have no protections. I was also about to qualify for extra benefits. Convenient. Loyalty means nothing.
I used to work for a small law firm where all the employees and managers were all immigrants from English-speaking countries and the boss was from the US. She hired a new office manager on the basis of his MBA from some random university state side that I had never heard of. As soon as he arrived, he created such a toxic environment, demanding that people work overtime even though the pay wasn’t competitive, etc. Apparently, I went to the toilet too often even though my tasks were all done on time… He told me that since we didn’t have enough staff, I would need to take my lunch break at my desk in case someone calls… Legally they’re allowed to only give you 30 mins for lunch here, but it boils down to what as a skilled worker you’re going to accept. I got invited to a termination interview,…
