New employer underpaying me
Sorry if this isn't the place to put this but I am already over my new job. I'm a full-time college student, tutor, and picked up a “fun” and easy side job because I need money. Since I started there has been little communication, I haven't been put on schedules but was called in last minute, and my first two paychecks paid me fewer hours than I worked. I mentioned this about the first paycheck and they “fixed” it but it's still three hours short. They also expect us to give time off three weeks in advance but put out new schedules one or two days before the work week begins. I asked off two dates three and four weeks in advance and my manager complained that she needed to remake the schedule. Why isn't it published then? It's honestly BS and I want to quit soon but it's also…
Context: just got my first job out of grad school at a very large corporate organization as a scientist, been there about three months. I work 40 hours/week but I’m paid hourly. My new boss is probably the worst person I’ve ever met. So here are the top five things he said to me from bad to worse. The HR guy made me hire you, I wanted the guy with the PhD. Im gonna be doing most of correspondence over the phone or in person because I don’t want a paper trail of what I say If you cry at work again then I will tell my higher ups that you won’t be able to handle a promotion. You can’t be a good scientist if you don’t work more than 40 hours a week.. but don’t log those hours, we don’t have the budget to pay you overtime. Ya know,…
I'm on leave from work for about 3 weeks. I'm attending a partial hospitalization program for my mental health. Today I sent my doctor's note over to HR excusing my leave. I recieved an email from HR asking me to come in tomorrow for a meeting to discuss it. We've already discussed it, so I'm not sure what else there is to talk about it. My boss told me before I left that they might be planning to reject my doctor's note, so if I choose not to come in anyways they'll have reason to fire me.
Unrealistic job demands for teenagers
At my first job, if you couldn’t make it to a shift, you had to find someone to cover you or else you’d get a point, too many points and you’re fired. One time, I had a choir concert (that I had to perform at for a grade) that was happening at a time I was scheduled to work. I went into my job, ran around the whole store asking people if they could cover my shift and multiple of my older coworkers told me that if I kept having conflicts like this, I was going to have to choose between work and school… I was 16. That’s something that can be frustrating about certain entry level jobs where the age range of workers is so large. A lot of the older people who have been working there for a while are so far removed from school and social life…
annoying interview questions.
I'm actually wondering how many people are experiencing this and what your thoughts on it is. I'm getting questions where hr, hiring managers, and recruiters are asking me “Do you have experience in [insert your job title from 3-5 jobs ago here]?” I mean I know most hiring managers average about 6-10 seconds on a resume, but literally not knowing some of the skill sets of your potential hire seem like a red flag to me, especially if it's literally the job your hiring for.
Just got off the phone being told that I'm being let go for not informing my supervisor that I'd be out. This has happened twice now, but the thing is I did let my work know. No one told my supervisor and I couldn't since I had no way of letting him know. Yesterday he said he would get me his number when I told him I let someone else know I would be out two weeks ago. Today all I had was a different person's number so I asked them to relay the message since I didn't have any contact info. They said 'no'. Earlier today my supervisor called me and I explained that I informed someone else and asked them to pass it along and, of course, he hadn't heard a thing. (I guess that ones my fault for not asking for his number in hindsight) I also…
She’s a single mom who works 2 jobs…
So work is extra aggravating me right now, and I need to vent. I left my last job almost two months ago. I was hired as part time, and that was fine initially. As soon as I start they tell me I’ll be working full time due to them being short staffed. Okay. Well three months later I’m set for my 3 month review. Still working full time hours. It doesn’t happen because my boss is busy. Another month goes by and she finally gives me my review after I have asked multiple times because I wanted to know how my performance was. At this meeting I mention to her that if I would like to be considered as a full time employee. She agrees and we move on. I get a 75 cent raise (lol) well someone ends up quitting and at this point we’re at six months and…
