[Discussion] RIP Quiet Quitting – Insider Article

Pasting the article below. What's your opinion on this? Let's discuss. — https://www.businessinsider.com/quiet-quitting-already-over-layoffs-jobs-recession-economy-2022-10 One of the first documented cases of quiet quitting was a recruiter I'll call Justin. Deep into the coronavirus pandemic, after working 10- to 12-hour days for much of his career, Justin had decided to dial it back on the job. When I spoke with him in February, he had whittled his workweek down to 40 hours. In the ensuing months, he went even further, working as little as 30. Every week he worked a little bit less, freeing him up to spend more time with his wife and their newborn baby. It was Justin, in fact, who helped spark the national debate that's been raging over quiet quitting. After speaking with him and other recovering overachievers, I wrote about how hustle culture, thanks to the job security granted by the roaring economy, was giving way to…

Paycheck Typo enrages Colorado New Hire to shoot boss

Source. According to the source, the guy has worked a few days prior. On October 20th, he shot his boss over a paycheck typo. He tried to cash it but his middle initial was incorrect. The company wanted him to bring the check back so they could fix it, but he had already ripped it in frustration. When he went to the company, the boss told an assistant to make a new check. Before that could happen, he pulled out the gun and shot. Police questioned the man, he said he wasn't allowed to be armed due to previous felony convictions. Go here and you can get a bit more info and see the mugshot.

Racism – Boss trying antics to not pay me – help what to do

Hi.ive worked in a school as a teacher in Italy for 3 years.its been fun but incredibly taxing and hard work and they have really taken advantage of me because I am foreign and my Italian is not perfect.it does not impede my ability to do my job and they have been happy to work me for the last 3 years without payment.the first year I had agreed to it but after that it became a waiting game for them to give me a proper schedule now it's obvious they are taking advantage of me. in the last year I am upset because it feels endless.they have hired new teachers who they pay properly and say it's because they 'speak italian' but of course it's better than mine they are from here. So anyway I finally got them to agree to give me proper classes under the impression it was…

If I quit, I might take the entire restaurant down with me

Idk if this is the right place to post this, but I'm feeling hella things and I want to get them off my chest somewhere. I work as a server at a small, mom-and-pop (or more accurately, mom-and-son-and-brother-and-niece-and-occasionally-other-brother) type restaurant. I've been here for six months. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside, I like the people I work with, and the food is delicious. Everything else fucking sucks. My boss has been late on my checks several times, and once my check even bounced. The environment isn't very good, and it's a very casual place- so casual, in fact, that some regular customers have threatened to beat me up (playfully, of course), cursed me out (but I still eat there all the time!), and been creeps on many occasions, and it's just normal. For context, I'm an 18 year old dude. I'm also expected to do three jobs at…

Ya know, being a manager sucks too.

Granted, I know there are a lot of shithead managers out there, but we can’t forget managers are a part of the working class too – likely part of the same group of people complaining about them here. As far as managers go, they have worked enough years to consider taking a managerial position so they can finally take out a car loan or – if they’re lucky – a mortgage. For me as a manager, I feel most phoney when I can’t explicitly talk to my staff about how rotten capitalism is. How stupid I think restaurants are. I can’t talk to them about how over-worked and under-guided we are as managers. How terrible it makes me feel to ask of them things that may put them at odds with what they truly believe in. But guess what (and this might be the old school part of me -…
