(throwaway account just in case) So I recently started as a seasonal associate for a company (position and company left intentionally vague). I had my reservations since I've seen the job posted a lot and assumed it was due to high turn over, but I applied since I was looking for work. In my very first interview I decided to just see what I could get out of them and gave a very high wage I wanted and mentioned that I had a family trip planned over thanksgiving. The trip over thanksgiving was not real, but I haven't seen my family in over three years and figured I'd work for them if I could finagle a way to get off for the holiday. To surprise they said “it shouldn't be an issue” when it came to the thanksgiving. So I figured even if the job sucks its only for a…
Im scared I don’t know what to do.
I get bullied at every single job I work too. My first job was McDonald's and everything was going great until this manager started harassing me and then it went from one manager to all the managers and hey all hanged up on me and did things to provoke me constantly. I also was harassed by a gay manager and she ganged up on me. Then the workers started turning against me. All the guy workers would either tell me to shut up on the headset or threaten to physically hurt me. Then I left that job and went to another job and the manager expected me to know the whole menu in three days. I made a few mistakes and the workers gave me looks like they wanted to kill me. Then the manager fired me i end up working at a chicken place. The manager was a woman…
Another lay off.
About to get laid off and looking for some info! Tried doing my own research on Google, but have not found any clear answers. I currently have two full time jobs. About to be laid off at one of them. The company is based in California, I’m a remote worker in Arizona. Am I even eligible to apply for unemployment if I have another full time job? My other job brings in more than the unemployment benefit I would be receiving. I read that this would disqualify me, but the info I’ve read was also a tad murky.
Take promotion or stay bored?
Not sure this is the right thread, but I have no irl sounding board. I’m interviewing with president of my company tomorrow for a possible promotion. Fortune 500 company. Currently, I make $45k/year+ benefits working M-F, 6 hour days. My job is 90% boredom and I read or play AC:NH on my switch all day. I’m overqualified but was happy to take a job where I had time to just breathe without ‘go, go, go’ until I hate everything. Now, the new position is Marketing/Internet Sales/Training and I think they’re going to lowball me at $60k/year and do two+ positions because that’s how corporations roll. We have no digital presence so I’d be building the initiative from the ground up with 60% corporate provided content. I’d also be closer to the ‘Good old boys club’ that is rampant in this industry and working closely with a sales manager who is…
TLDR: Peggy, a person from a marginalized group, was laid off from an exploitative company and is being asked to sign a non-disparagement agreement as a condition of receiving severance. Should she sign? Peggy was laid off after several years of working extremely hard and being underpaid. Peggy’s whole department of people from a minority group got the axe while managers and executives from more privileged backgrounds making over $160,000 per year kept their jobs. Peggy is being offered severance pay in exchange for signing a non-disparagement agreement. The agreement is extremely vague, has no end date, and reads as follows: CONTINUING OBLIGATIONS; NON-DISPARAGEMENT. You acknowledge that you remain bound by any previous Confidential Information and Inventions Agreement between you and the Company, attached hereto as Exhibit A, and agree to abide by those continuing obligations. You also agree not to disparage the Company and its officers, directors, employees, consultants,…

How far is too far to drive for a job?
I’m hoping to make a career change into the medical cannabis industry, and sadly there are plenty of dispensaries in and around the DC area but not as close to me, but that’s about a 2-2hr 30 min drive. I know for sure I want to work and get my feet wet in this industry, but would a drive like this be worth it if I could find a job?
She is having major health problems and called her boss from the hospital to say she will be back in 6 weeks for medical leave. (Not sure if it’s relevant, but she was in a state of hallucination when she called her boss). Now her coworkers are calling her saying that the boss plans on firing her. I feel like this is illegal? Hoping to hear if anyone has precautionary tips/advice on how she can come out on top of this situation? (She works at a nursing home and the management is horrible and always pulls BS on employees I used to work there too) Thank you
