my job just started a new policy requiring people working certain locations to stand outside in the heat and sun to sell things, with no seats, no shade, and no sunscreen provided to us. we’re in the middle of a crazy heatwave and they expect us (we work minimum wage btw) to do the job of three people, now while getting burnt in the heat, and it makes me seriously want to quit. it’s very unfair that they don’t even provide shade. the supervisors and leads and managers have no problem with this because they aren’t the ones who have to stand in the sun. its just the lower employees who do. i don’t know if this is illegal or not but i’m going to contact my department of labor and look for a new job. it’s very frustrating
Can I file for 1 week of unemployment?
I live in IL and I gave my two weeks on 8/1/2022 since I have an upcoming job on the 15. My manager sent me an email saying I will not be needed anymore after I left my shift that day. Just was curious if I could and if I should since this has never happened to me before.

Stress of redundancy has made me sick
Told I'm redundant 2 weeks ago, asked to apply internally for other roles when I stated I wanted to take the money and go. I've been in utter turmoil, been there 10y. It's a huge decision to make. I've got until Monday to decide if I want to apply for any of the jobs. Over the last week I've been very unwell, ended up hospitalised sort of unwell. Some of my organs are inflamed and the drs were baffled, no gallstones etc. They said this never happens, they've not seen it before.. it's likely stress related. I've got to work until mid-Sept. I don't want to. I'm seeing my Dr on Monday for a sicknote. Would it be shitty if I was off for the remainder of my employment? I'm so mad it's made me this ill. I've been crying all week, I'm utterly miserable and so angry.
I am inquiring for a friend who works for a very small non profit run by two complete psychos who haven’t paid her for three months. She is scared of repercussion because the field that she works in is niche and everyone kind of knows each other. Her bosses, who started and run this non profit, don’t have a great reputation within the community but she is still afraid of any backlash from them. She is one of two paid employees and the other one has told her that they have done this before. At this point they owe her around $8,000. She is planning on quitting but she is afraid to do so before they pay her what she is owed because she is afraid they will never pay her if she quits. We are in WA state. Any advice would be very appreciated!
I work out of an office that houses 11 others that do what I do. There is also a Chief and a Deputy Chief. Everyone pretends to like each other all the while toiling away for a government agency that could care less about them. I’ve sat and studied how the real dynamics of the office works. The deputy chief (DC) is a conniving little snake. He makes moves now that will benefit him later. He has worked his way into being very close to a very powerful upper management person by looking and saying the right things. The Chief (C) is spineless. She is scared to make any decisions, but she is more afraid of the DC because of his connection to upper management. The DC runs the show. The way they moved into their positions was by gossiping about the former Chief (FC), who had taken sick days…
Right before the pandemic hit, I was working as a nurse (LPN) at a high-volume urgent care in the greater Seattle area. My managers were v out of touch and always complaining about how they never had any applicants for the unit. One day I was charting at my workstation before heading into another patient's room and my manager had the audacity to make a joke in front of our entire staff that the workman's comp form he was filling out for the delivery guy being seen next said that he made more money than I did as their staff nurse. This is not me saying that a food delivery person deserves to make less than me – he likely wasn't pulling a wage considered liveable for our area to begin with. But this is the behavior of over-paid healthcare administrators across the nation. Then add covid burnout. This is…
Seen in my town today
Delicious Irony
So my extremely old school employer has been hardline on the push for us to go back to work in person starting in the fall. Now that I’ve had a taste of remote work, there’s no way I’m ever going back to in-office work unless there’s a damn good reason to be there. Especially since they’ve been dicking me around for three years on a raise/promotion. So I’ve been looking for a remote position for a while and not only did I find one, I found one that pays me what I’m worth and doesn’t even have an office in my town. I’m going to be signing the papers early this week and giving my notice the second that’s finalized. So back to my current employer: I work in the head office doing internal communications. Given this huge push to return to office, I’ve been tagged to produce supporting propaganda…
