I'm a retail security officer and I work Monday to Friday. 10 hours a day. 50 hours a week. Started last month full time, but only once did I complete a full five day week. Other weeks I pulled a sickie for atleast one day. I just get so exhausted doing this useless job, standing there like a statue for hours on end. People giving you dirts and hurling abuse cos you're doing your job, observing people in the store. It feels like it takes an hour for the clock to move fifteen minutes. Working five days a week makes me wanna die. I only got three hours to myself before having to go to bed and repeating the whole process. How does everyone else cope working five days?
I have been in the IT business for over 30 years and for each of those 30 years my employers have talked about a better work life balance. I’m usually on the operations and engineering side so we do a lot of emergency type work and a lot of project work. Work life balance is hard to come by but it’s part of the job. Companies always promise to make it better but over 30 years I have yet to see this. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?
I did not realize how common this thought is. I was reading an AITA about a lady who requested to move because an obese person was spilling into her seat. Now obviously, this lady is not the asshole, people deserve to be seated comfortably. However, every comment's solution was the same “If you spill over into the next seat, you should just pay for 2 seats”. Airline companies have been decreasing their seat space for the past 2 decades and increasing the price to fly. But we're framing this issue as an individual problem? Overwhelmingly the answers were “Airline companies are private corporations and can do whatever they want to turn a profit”. Okay but they're providing a substandard product. Also I'd like to point out that the obesity epidemic is directly linked to poorer working conditions and lack of access to healthy options for poorer neighborhoods. Obesity IS a…
Back in 98 I started working for a company. I worked my ass off. We had to take exams to qualify for moving up. Within 6 months I had passed the exams and was working as the assistant manager from the entry level delivery driver position. Along comes new boss and we get along alright. Until I wanted a raise of more than 15 cents an hour. I would have to prove myself first. 2 months of him telling me not right now or I need to get better before I can get anything even the 15 cents he said he would get me. Little did he know that I had met with a VP of the company a couple months before because I had the best metrics in his area. He gave me his card and personal cell number. I called up my new friend explained what I was…
I'm very angry about this. I'd been working at this local business for almost 2 years. I won't go into the specifics, but it was a business with many moving parts and I was the only one there trained in every position. In total I worked 8 different positions there, whereas every other employee worked maybe 2 at the maximum. Basically, if there were any callouts or people who needed a cover I was almost always the first person called and I really tried my best to come in if I could. Recently I got another job and cut back my hours at the first job. Despite knowing this, my GM scheduled me outside of my availability. I had a conversation, she said she got it, whatever. I also turned in my two weeks knowing this could happen again, but planned on returning to this business after busy season ended…
I am prepared to begin a campaign of being impossibly antiwork, because fuck having to be exploited and having our necks being wrung and choked by uncaring dickwads who care more about their fat fucking pockets then any of us… the very dickwads that have made me the craziest and most unpredictable cat in town! So I am spreading my FUCK YOU TOXIC WORK as far and wide as I can to help as many people gain their freedom and tear their chains down as much as possible. It's what I can do so… 🙂 It's also my own story as well as a way of saying that, “the paths that late-stage Capitalism has burnt me down with so much pointless distress and dysfunction that never had to be there. And I want to fight back now after winning the war against being a slave for the greedy bastards… in…
She’s keeps hiring “stand-in’s”
My boss has a new hiring strategy that is meant to help us with turnover. She hires a bunch of full/part timers (8 to 10) but has no intention of putting them on the schedule. She keeps them on standby in case someone on staff quits. The full/part timers sign paperwork and are excited to start working (as promised during their interview/hiring process) but what they don't know is that they will never see their first day (except for orientation). They are promised a certain number of hours but its a lie. We need people on standby so she lies to get them to sign on. Recently a few part timers that were hired started to call asking when they would be scheduled. My boss coached the staff on generic responses that we can give so they feel heard but we don't actually address the question at hand. She also…
