So my work decided that due to the excessive heat in my area that they were going to send people home for the next 3-4 days since we work around hot, heavy machinery and molten plastic. Great right? Nope People who are being sent home due to what the company deems “unsafe working conditions” aren’t being compensated. They were told to use their vacation or sick time even though they have no choice over if they would come to work or not. But it gets better Our company has decided to run 2 out of the 34 machines we currently own and is making teams of 6 (day shift, swing, graveyard and the 12hr employees) continue to work during the heat wave. We are not being offered any extra pay, had no say whether or not we came and if we didn’t show up or called out it would be…
A bit of a rant, but also could be informative. I work for a gigantic financial corporation. This is the first job I have ever had where there are no promotions, there are interview processes for lateral or vertical moves. I recently found out after having to “apply” for a different role within the same team. Weird? I am used to the manager simply promoting the most qualified, so this confused me. I had found out they use some type of grading system during interviews based on situational based questions unrelated to the position(name a time you went above and beyond, what was the result). These types of ridiculous questions and we must use the STAR method to answer. They do not take any consideration in regards to performance, accomplishments, or experience. Essentially, the least productive employee on a team can he promoted over the highest performing simply based on…

Callum’s corner phones his boss to quit
That one time i call in sick.
To preface this, i work as a chef in a restaurant and we are extremely understaffed in the kitchen. Its just the 3 of us running the entire kitchen 6 days a week for 12 hours a day. This happened about 2 months ago, i had to cover the entire kitchen due to the other chefs not being able to work because of covid. A few days later, probably because of physical exhaustion, i got really sick, it was so bad that i tried to get a glass of water but basically collapsed because i didnt have the strenght to stand. I called the head chef, which by now was at work again, and told him i couldnt make it to work the next day. Note: we had enough people that day to get by like we usually. My boss, being the amazing person he is, told me to get…
Help! Yes this is 1000% my fault. But I need any advice that is out there if anyone has any, and thank you in advance. Also, please be gentle, I know this was such a dumb move on my part. TL; DR: I agreed to take a paycut because I didn't take 2 extra seconds to double check. So I have been at my current co. for about 4 years. In that time they have descended into a total shit show, regularly laying people off in waves and reassuring us it wont happen again only to have it happen again. They finally had to fire everyone with less than a weeks notice at the end of June because they literally ran out of money. It more than sucks. Anyway instead of closing they sold parts off to someone else and during all of this turmoil and duress of losing…
Being sabotaged/bullied by coworker?
Hey, So I just started at a job where I have a coworker who has begun to make really off-putting comments. Today while I emptied the paper shreds from the shredder into a garbage bin she said “garbage is a man's job”. She makes little digs like that atleast twice per shift; I've been here for about 2.5 weeks now. She also will play random insulting tiktoks off her phone and laughs(I'm not sure if it's her real laugh or not because she literally goes “wuuuhoohahaha” like an evil Disney character lol. And when she was filling out a report about who's on the clock she said outloud she knows our other coworker will be there- implying that she wasn't sure if I would be even though we are fully aware I am scheduled as I agreed to. She also waits for me to leave before she herself leaves, as…
I work for my fathers construction company and unfortunately I’ve seen wages stagnate. I talk to him all the time about raising wages to up moral but he isn’t listening at all. Some guys here earn 16/hour doing iron work.. seems very unethical. Is this technically illegal? I want to help my guys out but he won’t listen to me.. is there anything I can do?
