From “the simple path to wealth”
The Monk and the Minister Two close boyhood friends grow up and go their separate ways. One becomes a humble monk, the other a rich and powerful minister to the king. Years later they meet. As they catch up, the portly minister (in his fine robes) takes pity on the thin and shabby monk. Seeking to help, he says: “You know, if you could learn to cater to the king, you wouldn’t have to live on rice and beans.” To which the monk replies: “If you could learn to live on rice and beans, you wouldn’t have to cater to the king.”
r/Denmark is putting up payslips
Showing and talking about pay is allowed in Denmark. So this weekend it's been possible to see payslips from different professions in Denmark. Though it's in Danish.
No one wants to work vs no one applying?
I've got some theories about I want to hear your opinions on this topic. I've been hearing that no one wants to work… Ok sure. I've seen a bunch of posts of the hellscape of applying and getting ghosted or rejected hundreds of times. I believe you, why would you lie? Now here's my experience. I work in public education and we are desperate for people. We've got a bunch of entry level full time custodian positions. Not great pay but not too shabby. We've got a shortage of educational assistants to help in classrooms 4 to 6 hrs a day. We've got maintenance positions both entry level and supervisor. We've got two or three director level positions. We've been looking for a server admin for about 7 months with 0 applications. We're hiring a $100k/yr head of communications position. And nearly every position is union represented as well with…
Book quote from 1998 that just hits.
I work in Europe for a SaaS company and make around 40K € per year. Long story short a new position was available in my company for a new role dedicates for a specific client and I’ve applied and received an offer. I’ve seen the contract for this client and I know they pay 200k USD yearly for this position. My company is offering me a 10% raise if I accept this position, which would mean I’ll be earning 44k € yearly. Am I crazy to think they’re ripping me off given what the client is paying my company and what I’ve been offered? Thinking about telling them I know how much the client is paying and requesting a fat raise.
