Accommodations for days off
Context: I work in an industry that generally requires 60 hour work weeks or more. Its been affecting my personal life in several ways. I'm looking to make a “reasonable accommodation” requests to free up at least my weekends. What are some ways to make it more desirable of an accommodation? Any tips? Thanks in advance.
So I started a new job a couple weeks ago and started my first shifts last week. I come from a handy man line of work and this new job advertised itself as such but its basically just grounds keeping and stock. Because of this the only people that are applying are electricians/carpenters/plumbers. I had previous experience in grounds keeping fortunately so It was quite easy to land the job, i knew everything that they were after and because of this i feel they rely on me way too much. There was a guy there before me who had not had a single other coworker in 6 months, the boss talked about how he was untrained and did a poor job and that i was his ace in the hole, this made me feel proud in the moment but looking back on it, it may have hinted towards my current…
Boss said he ” can’t figure me out”
So as the title says my boss a few months ago on our one on one said he “can't figure me out”. I have an amazing supervisor I report to. He's great. No problems. He really helps progress my career. Now the boss on the other other hand. He's…different. He's very BFF with some of the guys in the office who he previously worked with. I'm still new, female, worked there under a year and I don't like to make close friends at work. But I'm learning to break out of my shell, I chat with a few ppl I like more and I'm generally happy. This boss isn't helping. He seems rattled by me. Put off that I'm not bff-y with everyone. And not bff-y with him. I've been told he treats ppl like their dumb and he's an all knowing god. He definitely has this personality type and…
Death by a thousand cuts
Recently spoke to someone who took my job at my formal employer. Its sales and in finance to save you all from going through my posting history. When i first joined the company the veterans told me how they used to all have secretaries, how the coffee machine was free, how friday's and the summer was. How they were all regularly brought out to expensive lunches or how the company covered golf client business expenses. When I joined many years ago we had group secretaries, the coffee machines were gone, pizza parties and commissions were half of what the veterans had and you get bet your ass everyone worked at least 50 hours every week. Now this new guy who took my job, has to pay out of his pocket the group secretaries, has to pay for his cubicle/office every month, coffee machines are back but now require money, still…
Temp to hire vent
My partner was the only one working for the past year and a half. He was working through a temp agency and it's not like he was making us rich but for me to work, it would have been my whole salary to put the kids in daycare. It didn't make sense. His supervisor pushed him to apply for a position and they wanted to hire him. They offered him $1.75 less than what he was currently making. WITH THE SAME COMPANY. He is in IT and he would have had a whole department to manage plus help out at other locations as needed. He would be the only “floater.” He asked if they could come up. He was willing to take a small cut because they do offer a lot of benefits (that's how they get away with paying less) and they do annual increases, guaranteed. They counter offered…
