What happened to decent downtime?

It used to be 9am to 5pm. You get federal and state holidays off with weekends and it used to pay good too. Now it's 7am to 10pm, shit wages that can barely put food on the table and only TWO days out of the year for holidays and only one day in the week for any recreation time at all. What the f***.

filed a claim for unpaid sick leave with the DOL

I've just went ahead and filed a claim with the CA Department of Labor regarding unpaid sick leave towards the end of my employment, as well as unpaid covid sick leave two months prior. Upon submitting my claim, I see that there will be a hearing. Does anyone have any experience with this? I didn't know that I'd have to appear in person, and it's not something I'd like to do. I just want my unpaid wages. Do I really need to show up in person?

One holiday a year policy. Do I quit?

I asked for time off in December since I won’t be here, and was told that there is a one holiday policy. I want to quit, but then there’s my retirement account which would need to have $5,000 to stay open when I leave.
