Applying remote on LinkedIn from another country

Hi If possible, I'd like your help on this. I've been applying for writer/editor remote positions in US and UK through LinkedIn (I'm disabled so can't do much more). And I'm not from either country but my country doesn't have such jobs. For the long time I've been doing that, I've only got responses from volunteer positions. And If my skills are enough for that, they should be enough for a paid position. I'm even sending messages to posters and nothing. So, I'd like to ask, does being outside US automatically disqualify me or something? And since I only get responses from volunteering, is it possible to try to negotiate for them to make it paid, or is it useless/against the law? Thx in advance

Mixed Minimum Wages?

Edit to clarify- In this hypothetical situation, the minimum wage for minimum qualifications should 100% be a living wage, not the current standards. The higher wages would just be for increased comfort due to the extra work they (should have) put in for said qualifications. I could be digging myself deeper here but Im loving the feedback, really helping to open my eyes as a young worker. Do you guys think that there should be different minimum wages based on certain qualifications or circumstances? Like say one minimum wage if you graduate with A-levels/High School, a higher one for a degree and a higher for like a masters etc? I believe it would stop companies under paying graduates while opening up the workplace for people who are unable to get all the qualifications. Similarly I believe that there should be some labour laws that include raises (or again another increase…

Conspiracy Theory

Are companies taking kick backs from investors to force people to go back to work in order to fund some of these investors real estate portfolios? Or do you think CEOs are closely tied to real estate markets already and that’s what their decisions are based on. A company I used to work for and thank god left several months ago announced originally that they would leave 30% of employees work from home and everyone else would have to come back to the office, whether they like it or not. Well, now they just announced that the 30% that were promised permanent work from home, some employees even awarded permanent WFH before the pandemic must come back to the office or be fired. A good majority of these permanent work from home employees have bought houses out of state during the pandemic, very far from the city offices they are…

So tired.

I am currently at Lowe's. I'm leaving because this job has put me on a mental decline. This job hasn't even been difficult or overworking or TOO low-paying, a fact which makes me feel even worse for no reason. With Lowe's, everytime I am about to go to work I am simply filled with dread and I become depressed and anxious to the point where I'm sitting in the bathroom until they call me over the overhead com. As a cashier, there's no place for me to hide myself if I have a breakdown. What's more, is I'm tired of working somewhere until I'm crying in the bathroom more than once every shift. I am done with applying to one job after another after another, just to find someplace that gives me money. I don't even like money. I despise it. As a grown, fucking adult I say I don't…

Is there any merit to the idea that minimum wage jobs should be “starter” jobs?

Coming in as a supporter of the movement but relatively uneducated in these matters. When I was a kid, and still today, my parents always told me that minimum wage jobs were never supposed to be able to support an entire family and live off of. I’ve heard from multiple older people this same argument, that minimum wage jobs are supposed to be work by underage or dependents for spending money, not living money. When I told one of my parents that I knew adults that had to work multiple jobs full time in order to support a family, he scoffed at me and told me that the reason why my friend was struggling like that was because of life decisions he had made, and told me that any educated adult should have no trouble finding a job that can support themselves. Anyone have any ideas on counter arguments for…

It’s called Work-to-rule

Don't let them call it quiet quitting and blame us for doing the work we've been hired to do. “Work-to-rule – Wikipedia” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work-to-rule

Prohibition against discussing bonuses

There has been much discussion here of the illegality (in the US anyway) of an employer requiring employees not to reveal their pay to each other. But what about merit bonuses individual employees might receive? Still illegal? Is it a good idea? I actually see some rationality behind not discussing bonuses, since these are one-off things that are in theory supposed to reflect an individual’s quality of work, and comparing them could breed resentment. Any opinions?

Probably getting fired soon

I work at a fucking Panera Bread. Sometimes when we bag up the donations for the charities, no one picks them up, so they get tossed out the next day. But when I’m working and I see the bags of day old bread, I take em and put them in my car to give away to less fortunate people. Well, the GM at my store is currently cracking the whip on everyone she doesn’t li- I mean, all the “bad employees”. And today I got told to make sure they get thrown out. Ignored that shit and took it like normal. Probably getting fired for being a decent human being, but fuck it. I know plenty of people that can use this bread, and I’m not throwing good food away because the GM is throwing a tantrum about the employees she hates. (She fired a guy for calling in sick,…
