I hate being rushed

It annoys me to no end how so many work places need you to be super fast. Let me just go at my pace. Im not being slow on purpose, I know what I'm doing, its getting done in a timely manner. If we are behind that sounds like a scheduling issue of too many tasks. Not my problem.

The terror of living/working in Latin America – Part 1.

I just hate living in latin america, i want to buy a new cell phone and laptop, i will have to work 3 years and basically save 80% of my income so i can buy these already outdated items, in a developed country like the united kingdom, America, Canada and other European countries. from what I saw, in less than 4 months it would be possible to buy these items. – if reward for work is bad enough in developed countries, it is even worse in developing countries.

Currently job hunting and seriously wtf

I have sent in my CV to about 60 places in 2 days and barely got back 4-5 calls. 4-5 rejections also coz I am looking for WFH and they were on-premises. But nobody wants to work right? Fucking clowns. Now I have no income.

“8 and skate”

I got to spend a few days with my parents (54 and 52) and got to hear allll about how no one has work ethic because they’re not killing themselves for a company that will replace them in a heartbeat. Dad said “That kid didn’t learn work ethic from their dad, he was an 8 and skate.” As in, put in his 8 hr shift then clocked out and left work at work. All the while, my parents are working during their vacation, not getting paid, and think their self worth is tied to their work productivity. Make it make sense.

Held morally hostage – Advice needed (or hypepersons)

I booked a immovable and essential “holiday” (expedition for a program that I have been making my way through for over 5 years) just under a month in advance and it has been denied because too many other people requested those dates off. I have formerly applied 2 months early for a different holiday and was told I had made the request too early so I decided to wait this time around. I was only supposed to be at this job as a seasonal employee terminating in march of this year however I stayed on because I had no where else to go. I'm a flexible worker typically with a minimum of 7.5 hours a week. Though I have had weeks where I have done far more depending on others schedules. I've been told that we would not be able to open the shop if I took time off then…

I’ve been really struggling with work ever since they made it mandatory to come into the office.

I got this job late 2020 during Covid and it was 100% WFH. It's the best job I've ever had. I was able to concentrate and really excelled at my position despite having no prior experience in the industry. My direct management team was also really great, which is not something I'm used to. First job I ever had that I didn't dread actually waking up to go to work every day and instead kind of looked forward to it. Absolutely insane how happy I was with the position. Then, sometime last year, the head of our company made it known that they went out of their way to get an office building so that we could go back to the office, about 25-30 miles away from where most people lived, and it was going to be mandatory attendance. Fucking blew me out of the water that they were doing…

Anxious coworker from hell

How do I stop the young, anxious coworker that’s new from constantly pinging me on slack? I have only been there like 6 weeks longer, but I have had this role before and I am much older than she. She has never done this role before and I have been kind and listened, but she is working longer hours, working way too hard for being this new. I am over it! She asks a million questions in meetings and pings me on a. Friday when I am not working hard or hardly working. I am going to start not responding for long periods of time to give the impression I’m super busy and perhaps add meetings on my calendar for “work time”. I am just over it! I want to do my job from home and that’s it. I get enough interaction from meetings and family, I don’t need a…

Do you think that if we work hard, people actually take notice?

When I was 24 at my first office job, I had a mean old rich lady for a boss. She said to me once: “everyone is replaceable.” As shitty as that was to hear, I believed her for a long time. Now almost 10 years later, I’m starting to realize how untrue that is. Is a hardworking, flexible pushover like myself really that easily replaceable? Do you believe that you get noticed by your superiors when you work hard, whether or not they reward or praise you for it? Follow up question: how much is a hardworking person worth to a company? I’d like to think we’re worth a lot more than they let on.
