Why Money Ain’t Free
new position = more burnout
i dont even know if this is the right sub i love my job (i work with dogs) but lately i feel like i need a new start/break/whatever and it's starting to wear on me and then my boss offered me a new position (more work) but did not offer better pay. it's not even the field i would ever consider and i just want to leave but they've been so helpful and kind to me i would feel awful
So due to my religion, I am not able to work Sundays. So when applying and after applying, I indicated that I cannot work Sundays at any time. This worked perfectly until I got back from a 2 week vacation. After returning, I called my boss to let them know that I could continue my regular hours (mon-sat any time between 7am-10pm) they scheduled my first day back to be Sunday morning. I thought this was simply a mistake, so I just traded shifts with a friend that day and continued working the rest of the week. On that Wednesday, I realized that I was scheduled for the following Sunday as well, confused I go to my manager and remind them that I can’t work Sundays. He apologizes and says he will fix it for future schedules. I thought everything was resolved, BUT NO, the following week I’m scheduled for…
For more details, I work in an industry I’ve never been interested or passionate about. It’s informative, but boring. (It’s finance). My current job pays really well despite it being boring, and I plan to start a graduate program next year. The first year of the program I could easily work PT at my current job but after that I’ll have to quit bc the program requires actual intern hours and field work (it’s for therapy). Looking for advice on how to have this convo with my employer. They seem to really like me, and I’ve been there almost two years. I want to show them I can work PT instead of my agreed upon 40 hours, and not only that, I need to convince them to be supportive of my complete change in career while I still work there. I want to be honest so they’ll know I’ll be…
To begin, I agree with the philosophy here. I've been an advocate for workers rights for 3-4 years at this point (I know, I'm not part of the OG antiwork group). This isn't an attack, as much as it's a legitimate question. I fundamentally believe that no one should starve, become homeless, or die of treatable disease for profit. We need reform to fix the many systematic and oppressive issues we face with employment. (my opinion is that workplaces should be democratic until we no longer need to work) I've been in this world long enough to know that every story has 2 sides though. Employers have an incentive to screw over employees, and employees have an incentive to screw over employers. Do you think some members of Antiwork have made a habit out of framing issues to make themselves look favorable? If not, have we created an echo chamber…
