A relative of mine is dating a man who owns a pritty large roofing company. I always end up asking him how work is just to make conversation. He started talking about having a hard time finding help. He complained about a lot of things. He said he's been told if he pays more people will work harder. His response was work harder and I'll pay you more..He did say he has an insensitive program. If they work 5 days Monday through Friday (50hours) he will pay $1 more per hour and if they work a full Saturday it's $2 more per hour on top of overtime. All depending on weather. He also didn't mention starting pay. He also said if he gets a bad night's sleep he's libel to fire someone soon. He's also a landlord and has plenty of money based on his lifestyle. Idk I just wanted…
Looking for information on PTO
I'm looking for information regarding the “mandatory” use of PTO, but I'm unsure how to word it into Google to get a clear answer. This is coming from my wife. Basically, her office has said that if they are closed or have a delayed opening due to inclement weather like snow or ice, then they are to use their PTO to cover that time. In other words, if they open a couple of hours late, they AUTOMATICALLY, take from her PTO to cover those two hours. Even though the delay is beyond her control. Regardless if she wants to use the hours or not. Just wondering if this was standard practice or even legal. We live in Connecticut.
Hi guys. I'm really Ill, I have COVID-19. I'll be honest I've been sick a lot this year. I have issues with my immune system. I'm currently in the process of getting a diagnosis from the doctors but waiting lists are extremely long. I missed a call from my manager this morning because I was asleep sick. I realized about 2 hours later when I woke up. I straight away phoned in. I got thrashed by my manager. He said I didn't follow my procedure. I've gone AWOL. I shouldn't have to chase you up. I'm feeling like shit right now because I'm worried it will go onto my already bad record. They don't pay sick leave. I have no idea how I'm going to survive next month. What the hell can I do and what can I use in my defense if I am pulled in for temporarily being…
They’re not that busy.
Community Days
As part of my company's Hybrid Work policy, they are now instituting “Community Days in an intentional effort to ensure employees are present and not in calls/meetings for the majority of the days in office. This will provide more time to collaborate and connect with coworkers/management, since networking & connecting with our colleagues is invaluable.” Appears Community Days are set by location; typically either Tuesday & Wednesday or Wednesday & Thursday. The Hybrid policy is 2 days in office / 3 days WFH. This doesn't apply to me, as I have always been 100% WFH for this company. In defense, I can say I work for a very large corporation, and post COVID they have offered the option of Hybrid to most all positions that are able (non-production). But from my perspective it seems to be yet another small move towards return to office. Maybe I'm just reading too much…
Signs you have left a toxic workplace
For me, one of the most telling signs you have left a toxic workplace is when you interview for another job or start a new role and realise how much better you are treated. It is a refreshing breath of fresh air. Anyone feel the same way?
