Family emergency, last minute resignation. Need advice

Hey all, There has been a emergency a month ago, that has left my grandmother unable to care for herself. I notified my boss immediately that I may need to fly home to take care of her for about 2 weeks. I asked if I’m able to take unpaid time off as I don’t have enough PTO saved up. He told me to go through the company website and do a FMLA request, and that unfortunately it’s not be up to him. So I did. The request got denied about 2 weeks ago as she’s not a qualifying family member (spouse, child, parent). Once again I notified him of this, and he suggested I submit a regular leave of absence request. Which I did. I still haven’t heard back. And the day I leave is on Monday. I was going to give a 2 week notice but thats not on…

A tough question: On what moral grounds do we criticize other non-democratic countries when the democratic rights of workers are being trampled in our own countries? North America in particular seems very hypocritical right now.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2022/11/03/rwnn-n03.html 'The abrogation of workers’ rights by deeply unpopular governments in North America and Europe makes a mockery of the incessant claims by these very same regimes to be engaged in a crusade for “democracy” and “human rights” against “Russian aggression” in Ukraine.' 'Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce are using their draconian strike ban to arbitrarily decree further massive real-terms pay cuts. The four-year contracts to be imposed under the Orwellian-named Keeping Students in School Act would provide a maximum annual pay increase of just 2.5 percent, under conditions in which inflation for basic necessities is well over 10 percent. The imposed contracts would also slash sick pay and gut job security provisions. Any worker who defies the strike ban faces a potential $4,000 fine for each day of job action, while trade unions can be fined $500,000 per day.'

For the past year and a half I’ve been working my dream job, sitting in a chair and playing video games for 8 hours. No its not streaming related.

I've never had ambitions for a career. As far back as I remember when anyone asked what do you wanna be when you grow up I never had an answer. I didn't wanna be anything. Call me lazy, I just dont think there is anything in this world that I would enjoy doing as a job, and there is definetely no job I'd be willing to go to uni for, waste several years and who knows how much money for. After school I had to work though, so I did. I worked as a waiter, then a barista . 7 years I did that, often pulling 16 hour shifts, dealing with incompetend and uncaring managers that subscribed to the philosophy of “No staff member is irriplacable”. I hated every minute of it. One night I was listening to Brandon Sanderson, an author, and he was talking about how he used…

I think many Americans are missing a big aspect of why there are so many societal problems. Instead of focusing on parties, I would like to focus on a functional gov’t.

Boss asked me to write my job duties after I put in 2 weeks notice

This is a job making over 6 digits with highly educated people, so I never expected this. My boss doesn't understand the work my department does and allows my senior coworker to run the department. She has made 3 people leave in 2 years. I am the 4th and told him she was the issue. I gave my 3 weeks notice. Last Friday I was on PTO for a minor surgery and took half of my stuff home on Thursday. On Friday, HR called and asked why I took ALL my stuff. My coworker made HR call me. Today, he told me to write my duties of what I've done on the past 10 months. I find it so odd. He wanted our team to talk about it tomorrow and he isn't clear. I'm quite scared because he was mad that I am leaving. Next Friday is my last day,…

Workers did a whole lot of nothing in the office too.

One of the comments against remote work I frequently read is: “If you have time to screw around is the whole reason why bosses want us to come back to the office.” The problem I have with this argument is people did a whole lot of screwing around doing nothing even when in the office. It is quite common for workers to get their work done in 3 hours or less and have a lot of time to screw around or pretend to look busy. At least when working remote it eliminates the need to pretend to work.

having under paid citizens is also directly effecting weight and obesity

not just because junk food tend to be cheaper. a big problem no one really talks about it is just the sheer lack of having the funds to actually get out and do anything. weight lose isnt always about actually working out. its about a general level of being “active” you can never go to a gym in your life and still be in good shape as long as you are active. but when you have little or no money it shuts so many doors in life that your options for being active become less and less. if money wasnt so tight maybe i'd go try and new hobby or just go window shopping. maybe if it wasnt so tight i would go bowling instead of just watching tv on a sunday. those little trade offs add up and its showing. more and more people opts not to do stuff…

I’m really not thrilled about having to work through strategies to attract two kinds of customers: the upper class and those who live month to month.

It makes me sick to think about what has happened to our economy and why.
