I am tired of being a door mat!

I work in the hospitality industry and I know it comes with the territory but my manager is a dk. I am always required to stay hours latter after my shift, which idk if that is legal. I don't mind the hours but how it is done pisses me off! If you need me to stay just schedule it in. I won't complain if you send me home early.

Worked too many hours for too long, now what?

So i have worked since I was 15. After highschool I spent 10 years working jobs that were labor intensive 12+ hours a day with long commutes on top of it due to my location. So I spent most of my off time relaxing or getting time with my significant other/family. About a year ago, I found myself in a position where I'm basically an instructor for what I used to do. Working SIGNIFICANTLY less hours. Recently, I realized since that happened I have changed very little about my off time. I basically come home and maybe clean up a little and otherwise I'm doing something that involves a screen for way too many hours. It's my default due to having very little free time for most of my life. Upon reflection of my situation I have found that I have no idea what I'm interested in doing with my…

Previous employer says I owe them for taking PTO I didn’t have when I quit, but they took PTO and took the PTO pay from my paycheck

The title explains a big portion of it. I worked for a pretty shitty place and won’t get into too many of the details here. I started in June and basically within a week of working there I got COVID from a coworker. I was out for a week, so they took PTO. Then in September I requested off a week in October. Well, they said no to that. Fine whatever. Then my check comes and it’s short by a whole weeks pay (they get butthurt when people request off but this was low). I see my PTO still missing though. Upon discovering this issue there was already another issue I had to go to my boss about. With emailing him, I included information about the missing pay and PTO with no response. A few days ago, I got a job offer and quit on the spot. Today I get…

an aqueintence of mine posted this on facebook

As a manager … well , let me rephrase ..as a 40 year old manager the biggest challenge I face is reconciling what I think is non existing work ethic of early 20 year olds with mine. For me, it is such an entitled generation. I hear things like “what do you mean I can't take time off with no PTO?” Or “I am not happy with this environment. It is not good for my mental health” or “I feel attacked” when they are being coached. All I am thinking is Huh? Like when did your problem become my problem?! When did it become my responsibility to make you happy? If you do not like where you work then quit! How did most of this new generation get the idea that they are so valuable? They are not! People have been doing your job before you and other people will…

How To Ask About Wages in Current Situation?

I'll try to keep it short. I was promoted a while back and it was big for me. I went from being an entry level tech worker and placed right into a mid level tech job in cybersecurity in a large org. I am wrapping up my final semester. They promoted me knowing I didn't have a ton of experience and certifications or my degree yet. The idea was that I showed a lot of potential and would take this opportunity to learn and maybe skip the monotonous bs of the lower level IT jobs. However, my pay is about 40% of the industry average in my region for my position. I understood the reasoning but I believe I have been overworked and have even had to take on a bunch of tasks from the support techs to pick up the slack. Now I am getting placed on on call…
