What is going on out there…
All but one of my new hires have some sort of previous work place PTSD that they’re unaware of. Every single one of them gives me a 3 page essay on why the need X day off two months from now. It’s your PTO/Me gal health time. They don’t owe me an explanation- just 2 weeks notice so I can make sure I have coverage. It’s nuts. One girl happy cried when she was running late, called me frantic (bad morning..etc) i Venmo’s her money and asked her to get us each a coffee. Calm down ma’am. It sounded like she needed a treat and I needed caffeine. Don’t get me wrong: we have expectations- and when they’re aren’t met we have a quick coaching conversation and I expect those to be heeded, but they’re fast and almost painless. And every single of of them is on anxiety meds… what…
Something got fucked up on the project she's managing and it's really getting to her. Have no idea what her actual level of fault in all this is because we're kind of at the mercy of Engineers for a lot of things. Anyway, I understand her stress because it's like a multimillion dollar job, but people don't even crack six figures at this place and they've kept us in a hiring freeze for almost 2 years. She's the type of person to work through our unpaid lunch breaks and on weekends and late and early, and with all that things are still going to get missed because that's just too much on one person. I feel bad too, because we're the last two people in our department (I referred her to our old manager, who left) and I'm looking for a new job. She should too, the company doesn't deserve…
They’ve Been Striking Since 6:30 AM
They're planning to strike every day until there's reform! There are more of them chanting on the other side of the building as well!
The radical left
So my 18y daughter was working at a juice store that rhymes with Oyster Moose here in Canada, she gave her 2 weeks notice to go back to school and instead of keeping her on and training someone else up, they fired her. In this economy. Sadly she loved this job. She'd come home and would tell me about drawing cats on little kids cups to make them smile. I remember back in the 90s when I gave notice at my gas station job to go to uni, they congratulated me and asked questions about what I was taking and if I'd like to work over my breaks . How short sighted are store owners these days when they can't find staff and then treat them like dirt? Well I guess they're teaching their staff to not give any courtesy notice, the idiots.
Why does my job want me to volunteer?
Hi, lately my company wants to do a “Corporate name here love” thing where employees go to volunteer.. now something about this truly bothers me and I can’t put it into words. I also don’t know or express why a company would want this. I know this is different from most content on this subreddit but I’m hoping someone can guide me. And get out of doing this shit unless it was coming from the goodness of my own heart.
