So my degree normally requires the completion of an internship to graduate, but luckily for me, they put a policy in place during COVID that lets us complete an alternative assessment instead if we can't find placement. I absolutely despise the concept of unpaid internships and opted for the alternative assessment, of course. As part of this assessment we need to write about why we were unable to complete an internship, and I'm seeing red. I included all the normal guff about how I had assignments and work and personal projects and how I even did some volunteer work for a not-for-profit organisation that aims to help people get jobs in my field, but I really want to tell them how it is. I've included the following paragraph towards the end of this section: “I also personally find the concept of unpaid internships morally objectionable for a number of reasons,…
I started a full time position where I work about a month ago. I was previously part time for a little over a year. I felt I really got along with and even used my former supervisor as a reference. However, since I started my new position, every time I see her she calls me a “traitor” – like “hey traitor” or “oh look it’s the traitor”. Everyone else was really happy for me. She has a sarcastic and sophomoric sense of humor so I laughed it off the first few times. But it’s happened so many times at this point that I lost count. It doesn’t seem like a joke anymore and I definitely no longer find it funny. In fact the past few times I’ve felt angry and hurt. Today I was like – “Are you really not going to let it go?” and she was basically like…

I’m a supervisor at a job that honestly has really bad management all around. I’m being mistreated by my coworkers and despite bringing up to HR no one has so much as contacted me. When I started this job, I really thought it was everything I could ask for. Good pay, good communication between my bosses and myself, a mix of clerical HR and other duties that seemed right up my alley- but everything has changed. My bosses are distant and never there, my coworkers never get things done and are constantly whinging that the tone of my emails aren’t “friendly enough “ (mind you the only way we communicate is by email, when did it become a crime to talk about the facts of the job and avoid making friendly conversation when you just can’t be bothered to?) and somehow I’m just really disheartened because it just seemed so…
My wife is a nurse, so you know, underpaid and over worked. Where she works offers 0 days of paid maternity leave. She had been looking at benefits next year and does not qualify for the premium short term disability. Her only “preexisting condition” is that she is pregnant. America needs legally mandated and protected parental leave.
I got hired as a customer service representative at this start-up in the beginning of the year. Since I’ve started the job, management would fire people with no warning. The first week I worked there, they called someone over to their office and while she was there, without her knowing, a member from the sales team went over to her desk and collected all of her things. Around March, I switched therapists and I found that it conflicted with my work schedule. My therapist provided a Letter of Support to my job requesting for one day off, and after discussing more with HR they were able to accommodate me. They also offered me additional shifts to make up the hours. Last week, they fired the last person on the night shift other than myself. The following day, HR called me into the office and told me that they couldn’t accommodate…
I'm a manager of a store that's apart of a fairly-large local food chain. We're right outside the capital and we're the first ones to hit the area, most are in college towns. I was brought in before opening and was told we had high expectations. My pay is, honestly, not bad at least compared to similar jobs. We've been successful, one of the best in the company. But the base pay for the crew is embarrassing. We aren't even competitive with the restaurants around us. I've had a turnstile of employees come through. I work hard, and genuinely care about my crew. I will do anything to make sure they're happy. But I don't set the pay rates. I've shown the higher ups the starting wages in the area, but they didn't care. After a major loss of crew at the end of the summer, we finally got them…
