First off I agree with all of the sentiment work life balance is out of whack you should have half of the time off half of the time working this would be a fair balance and realistically it should be affordable for all people to do just this. You need 8 hours of sleep to be healthy so this is gone… They expect you to work 8 hours a day normal full shift. What is left is 8 hours. Or is it? Lets dive deeper! However they expect an unpaid lunch so you are stuck there 8 hours and 30 minutes then you have about 30 minutes of getting ready for work then you have commute time. for a typical work day 8 hours you are expected to essentially donate 2 hours of your time. Either being at work commuting to work or being there early. So you start off…
South African query: are wages private?
I've seen a lot of discussion here from the USA talking about how companies can't stop you from sharing your salary. I just got a new contract which states: “Please note that the remuneration of staff is a private and confidential matter and you are kindly requested not to discuss your remuneration with others.” Is this legal in South Africa? Ps, this is a job with a local government entity
Hi, i’ve been on this subreddit for a while now and i’ve wanted to talk about how fucking incompetent the company i work for is, especially with a lot of shit i might post later, but anyways i thought i could post this. Some background info, i work for a company that outsources logistics work for other companies. We have all different locations across the world. Mainly dealing with the automotive industry. Anyways, our specific branch, i guess you’d call it that, does work for a large foreign car company in the U.S. We grab the cars from the plant, drive them next door to our facility, quality check them first to make sure they’re working okay. After this they either get sent out to the rail yard to get loaded onto trains/trucks, or they go over to my department. The side i work on does installs for the cars.…
Another one bites the dust…
My wife and I went to the pharmacy this morning, we had an appointment to get our flu shots. Got to the large chain grocery store with the pharmacy in the back. Walk up to the place and there is a line of half a dozen people standing there to pick up medication. Usually at the other end of the pharmacy is a second window to check in for vaccinations. But today it was gated shut. So we went and stood in line for 20 minutes as the ONE pharmacist busted her ass taking care of everything with zero help. When she got to us we asked if it would be better to come another time. She insisted she could get us vaccinated. As she was preparing the shots, we asked if she was flying solo. She said, yes all morning. We offered or sympathy and she said someone was…
Co-write my “I quit!!” email!
I'm having some trouble getting this one right…lend me your brilliance! Wring a drop of justice from this garbage heap! Context: worked 10 months in a role that was a blatant bait-and-switch (was promised project ownership and application of research skillset then handed a bunch of admin-y tasks). It took me 6 months to suspect gaslighting, and to realize that there is no potential for growth. The manager has also created immense thrash in adjacent teams and has trash talked colleagues to me…all while actively blocking important work (it's in the public sector, and this guy is basically lighting taxpayer $$ on fire). Also, I can't link it without doxxing myself, but there is a LITERAL FUCKING ARTICLE on local NPR about how he is a dumpster fire who creates chaos and toxic work environments (yes, I discovered it 3 months in). The fun part: I'll be accepting one of…
So I found a new job thats giving me a 58% raise. My current job is a slowly sinking ship so im glad to be leaving. I put in my notice right after I received the job offer. Unfortunately I wasn't able to give 2 weeks notice as the new job starts next week. My managers reply to my letter of resignation was “Due to the fact that your not giving 2 weeks notice you will never be considered for employment with us again” I laughed thinkingwhy the fuck would anywaybe worriedabout coming back to this shithole company. I Almost wanted to say “well then let's make it 0 days notice”. the last person they hired into my department is so incompetent i feel bad for the department I work alongside as im sure they won't be any better. The only thing im going to miss is all the Netflix…
WFH – how much do you actually work?
I realize this sub will probably skew towards the lower end of hours because people prob don’t want to put in more if they don’t have to, but regardless, I’m curious how many hours you work, if you WFH. My company (a startup) isn’t the best at figuring out their roadmap, so I often don’t have explicit work to do. Then I end up finishing projects quickly. I’m so so thankful that I can WFH, but I can’t help feeling extremely guilty because in the past 3-6 month, I sometimes only do 1-2 hours of work per day. I feel anxious about it all though so end up only partially enjoying my free time. I don’t have many connections, so don’t know how common this is though. How many hours do people actually work if they WFH? What are their feelings about it (any guilt/anxiety)?
We’ve been here, discussing, and angry at how things have been run. Let’s post some facts and some major problems. Some first steps we can take towards solutions. As well as some reasonable demands. Things like that bar graph that shows how prices are up everywhere, and corporate profits are up.
