Hi all, need some help with how to respond to a denial of bereavement leave. My sister in law passed away a few weeks ago. Policy states that siblings are eligible for 3 days of leave. I took 2 and am being denied ANY time off at all. The company stated they ‘are sorry to tell me this’ but I have to use PTO for all of it. I’m not asking what my rights are, but how to respond in a way that makes clear how utterly ridiculous it is to differentiate between my sibling and my husband’s sibling.
Background context: I work at a hospital. I work an evening shift. We'll call my shift the CL tech. There is another shift with the same start/end time as my shift that operates in a different room of our department, we'll call them the IR tech. Management recently started a new protocol that affects the IR tech and adds more tasks to their job. The IR tech complained, so they took the new tasks and put most of them on MY shift, the CL shift. The CL shift has it's own area, own tasks, own to do list that is completely unassociated with the area, tasks, and to do list of the IR tech. However, now that the IR tech has complained about the new protocol and tasks, they've decided to take THEIR extra tasks and dump them on me. Then, my surrounding peers have the AUDACITY to complain to…
Being considerate of fellow workers.
I notice a lot of people here post things like the boss or manager not allowing time off for family gatherings, or things like burying a pet, or “grief periods” and other scenarios, and being military myself and also having worked civilian jobs, the supervisors I had always told us, to plan things in advance, especially with fellow co-workers, especially if we are supposed to be a “team” or “family.” I know this is antiwork, and I am not trying to sound like an ass kisser, but I am thinking about how we are supposed to talk and plan things out in advance with fellow co-workers, especially if many workers here are supportive of mass walk-outs, or unionization (what is happening with Starbucks is a great thing, that company needs to be taken down a notch for how it treats its employees and customers Also Amazon workers striking and unionizing…
So I’ve already written about my shitty job before. https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/wdw55m/i_am_completely_disposable_at_my_job/ Anyway, despite when being offered an interview, I was told it was an ongoing casual position, it had some red flags. The biggest being when they unilaterally cut my hours with out any warning or explanation. Now on Wednesday I was told that I will no longer be needed, and that my role was only to “fill in gaps” (as in, while their employees were having vacations in Europe they needed someone to keep the lights on in the office). So I’ve been let go. Fuck them. I’ve already put my final shift in my calendar as “Last day of my bullshit job”. I’m just going to work even less hard, and spend even more of my time just reading the news and doing fuck all. What’s the worst that will happen, they’ll sack me sooner? So as I said…
Hey, so I just quit without a two week notice today because I have been overworked and my pay is shit and the workplace is toxic, anyway my manager said that I have to return the uniforms, we have 5 shirts, 10 pants, and 2 jackets. I have all 5 shirts, 7 pants, and 1 jacket in my locker at work but I really don't want to drive all the way to work (30 minutes) just to return some clothes. can they do anything legally or should I just ignore him? I panicked and told them I already returned everything but I really have not.
Does a cover letter really help at all?
I’m asking this subreddit because everyone who has ever told me to write a custom cover letter for every job application has been a capitalism-loving type of person. I want an answer from someone with actual perspective on how things are right now. I’ve custom wrote a cover letter and custom tailored my resume for every application lately and it has gotten me nothing but ignored and rejected. Am I wasting my time or does that extra work actually increase my chances by a meaningful margin?
Anything below $92,000 AUD. The below article on news.com.au sets an annual income of $92,000 as the average. To Americans who might read this, keep in mind Australia is an expensive place to live. https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/australian-economy/average-annual-earnings-for-working-australians-revealed-as-92000/news-story/2ddccfc55182b32b499c41fd236799d2
I’m just angry at my job
So i work as a cashier/bagger at a grocery store At first i was mad because we're so understaffed and basically doing two jobs at once Then i got mad because my health was second Then got mad about how they were treating me Now i'm just mad at it because tbh, i think it's now restricting me. The fact that I can be so much more than just a crappy cashier/bagger just makes me angry. It's essentially limiting myself. I'm not saying that i'm going to be a millionaire, but i can be way more than just a person working at a just barely above minimum wage job doing something I absolutely hate. And I especially hate that it took me 11 months to realize this.
