Wage theft as charitable tax write off?
TLDR: Something I've seen and always wondered: If you donate a portion of your wage through your employer to a charity, who gets the tax write off? Used to work for an international shipping company. Not the brown one, but the green & purple one. About this time of year they would be encouraging us, sometimes even giving us food, to sign up for automatic deductions from our paychecks to charities of our choice. Usually they'd make it easy and have a select few charities that you could check a box for after signing off. All for charity, so used to donate $50/month to some anti-cancer cause. Stopped doing it my last year of working there because I could not figure out who gets the tax write off on this. If it's us, cool, but why so much effort by the corporation to facilitate this? Corporations rarely do things from…
I'm an undergraduate student who was interning at a small startup. Things ended badly and my internship was terminated. I was asked to send a document with all the tasks I had accomplished over this time period along with the amount of days I had worked on each task. The owners think that the work I did over 18 days was only equivalent to 2 days worth of work, and have paid me accordingly. I'm not sure on how to proceed because I do want all my money that I rightfully deserve, at the same time I feel if I act aggressive then I won't end up getting the entire amount? The legal system in my country is very expensive and drawn out so I would prefer not involving it, as it would require a huge investment in terms of both time and money on my behalf.
Workplace making you do someone else job and do the task of 5 people? No problem as long as they don’t literally kill you it’s fine. Not get paid what your worth for doing other peoples job? It’s fine as long as you aren’t getting killed Burnout from job? It’s ok as long as they don’t kill you
I was pushed out because I did my job
Years ago I was working for an automotive parts distributor as a sales rep. Within a short time, I was promoted to New Accounts Coordinator. With this new role, I was in charge of recruiting new clients for the company and essentially “coddling” these new accounts before passing them on to the sales reps. I was good at my job. And the position came with a hefty salary increase. This would be where the red flags and problems would start to present themselves. With my newly increased salary I decided to purchase a new personal vehicle. I had earned it. However, management frowned upon this. I was pulled aside one day and was told that the purchase of my new vehicle “didn't look good for me” or the company because they didn't want the other employees being jealous or upset in regards to my new salary. Excuse me? You pay…
I work nights at a gas station. The manager told us a few weeks back that we arent allowed to sit even tho she will sit outside for up to an hour at a time on a “smoke break.” I don't smoke, so I don't go outside, but i do sit down for a few mins at the end of my shift once everything is done (12pm) I live in PA where the right to sit is a thing apparently.
So about 2 weeks ago I started a new work from home job, this job had 4 weeks of training as stated in the offer letter and then we would start our real positions. Also mentioned in the offer letter is that we would get any holidays that fell during training off, as we are not eligible for holiday pay until after the 30 days was up. Last week a few of my coworkers in my training brought this up to our trainers who brushed us off and said that we must work on Labor Day despite what our offer letter says. A few of us grew annoyed because we had signed a legal document of our employment terms and we’re now being told the opposite. Instead of honoring our offer letter, the “angry” people (ones who had questions about the fact that they lied to us), we’re placed in…
The 9 hour work day
I am looking for a new job in tech so I have been attending a lot of interviews. Overwhelmingly companies are telling me the work hours are 8a – 5p or 9a – 6p. What happened to 9a -5p?? Does anyone know what this is about or when this shift started to happen?
