look, i know the reddit is called anti work and believe me, i hate work, but i need a job and i’m a hard worker. my resume is not bad, i’ve had great experience but it just seems like no matter how hard i try, i can’t get a job. makes me feel even worse when i find out my best friend’s first job is at disney land, and i can’t even get a job at a panda express. maybe this is a bit of a vent post as well but i’d like advice. how do i play this system so i can get it to work against me. should i lie on my resume??? i know it’s a “numbers game” but i kinda already know that considering i’ve applied to 40 places (excluding indeed and glassdoor) within the past month and i really don’t have money for printer paper…
‘Quiet Quitting’. I like it.
It literally says stuff like “have a servants heart” “go above and beyond” “spirit of a champion” for $12 an hour?? AND it still has a crazy list of skills under the job description and requires flexibility?
my dream HOME
I'm an artist myself, and I can't help but think about the people working on the media that we use as escapism. And I reflect on how I failed to monetize my lifelong passion because I couldn't shove it well enough into the machine. It's probably my autism, ADHD and depression combined, but I'm a free spirit. I won't go into detail, suffice it to say I struggle to function as this system demands. But anyway, new movies and TV shows and their episodes are coming out every single day. I really don't feel like we need it. At least not this often, everywhere, all the time. But the artists HAD to make SOMETHING, or they would lose their homes and starve. It will never be enough, will it…? I just wish I and everyone else could live at our own pace. It makes me so deeply despair.
This story is going to be kept incredibly vague, just to avoid unnecessary details. Basically, after 4 years at my job, I switched to the same role at a different company. New boss was great, but she got moved to a different office after my first year with the new company. Because our office was “new” in the network, we had a lot of staffing issues, so we were continuously shorthanded. We also weren't part of the union. I was one of the only “veterans” at that building (meaning basically everyone except for a couple of other people were fresh hires), and in particular I was the only one with experience in my field. So I knew I had a lot of leverage. The new hires constantly complained about various things, but the two biggest ones were All lunches were explicitly stated to be working lunches due to our staffing…
BREAKING NEWS!
How do you feel about work contracts?
The other day I posted this and I was surprised to learn that most Americans work without a work contract. The comments were more or less justifying this by talking about the notice period. When looking at the antiwork stories, it's clear that everyone would benefits from such contracts. How do you feel about this?
