I'm a video producer who has been in the field for 14 years and I just turned 40. I can't even get interviews for jobs I am well qualified for. We are talking jobs that describe everything I've done down to the specific equipment. I thought the reason I took shit jobs and low pay was to gain the necessary experience for the higher end jobs? I literally spent three days making a sample video for one employer and they loved it, but “decided to move a different direction.” (Basically they used the guise of a job application to steal ideas.) I applied to the university from where I graduated, and never even got so much as a rejection letter. I do not dream of labor. I do not want to drive or be a car owner anymore but it is impossible to function and be able to survive and earn money without one. I don’t want to be exploited just so I can eat and have lights on. I just graduated in the spring but I cannot find a job that pays a living wage. I am not sure of where would be better. I couldn’t afford to leave anyway. I need health insurance as I have chronic illnesses. I can’t afford my medication. I can’t afford my bills. And I am crying on reddit about it.

Money, I want money.
I am planning to take off from September 22-27. This means I’ll be gone Thursday-Friday and Monday-Tuesday. My boss is taking a half day that Friday and said I can’t take that day off although other employees assured him that they would be able to cover for both of us. What should I do? I’d like to just call in sick for the Thursday and Friday. If other employees said they could handle him only there for half the day and me gone, why is it such an issue? I’m giving over a month’s notice!
