Hi all. I wanted to share my story, it’s been aching me for the longest, and i wanted some advice about what went down with me and my old GM at the time. Jumping back to last summer of 2021, I was 16 at the time and was looking for a new job environment. I previously worked at another fast food chain and wanted something new, of course chipotle caught my eye—so i applied. The GM at the time was 20 years old, and on our first interview, I thought he was the sweetest. We both were hispanic, so I thought that would make me feel more comfortable working here. It started out as being good coworkers, here and there we’d talk outside of work. Nothing too special. It evolved into having late night phone calls to which i thought was okay, cause he made me think otherwise. It then…
I (17f) went in for a job interview today, just because I wanted to see what it was like. The offer online was up to $20 per hour, but its almost an hour commute and i cant drive that far yet. I went to the interview anyways because I wanted experience interviewing for the future. I got there five minutes early, waited and filled out forms, and waited a little longer. Then it was ten minutes past the time when it was supposed to start and the interviewer walked in. She told me that she was almost ready, and that it would be just a few more minutes. It ended up starting fifteen minutes after it was supposed to. During the interview she mentioned multiple times that after I started pay might go up each year I worked there. But my starting pay would be $16ish per hour. I have…
Call companies out for ghosting.
I have a good job atm but still interview regularly to keep my union propaganda fresh. Recently I’ve noticed a lot of indeed applications I’ve been putting in haven’t been getting a response. So I go on google to look up the business and post a 1 star review along with: Hey! I applied a few weeks ago and haven’t heard anything back from you all. The position is open on indeed so not sure if you know that you might have people applying there or not but can’t wait to hear from you! Burner email account but it works great.
Who’s unemployed by choice here ?
Things in the US are bad right now. Housing prices are ridiculous. Wages are a joke. College is a big scam. My heart goes out to everyone struggling right now First and foremost pull together. While we certainly need some legislative and systemic changes but the government doesn’t give a fuck about you. Family and community is the immediate relief. Middle America needs an entire cultural shift in how it views family. This boomer nonsense about cutting your children off and kicking them out as soon as possible needs to end. It’s not economically possible right now and it’s morally wrong. A family needs to be a team during hard times. Why would you not want your child to have an easy life as possible? If you are financially struggling wouldn’t you rather split expenses with your child rather than each of you struggle to pay some shit landlord. Help…
So at my job there is this middle manager who is the typical over worker; always staying after, sending texts/setting stuff up after hours, never ever seems burnt out, does way more than he should, never says no, etc.. We all work exclusively on computers, and actually do super well when we occasionally have to WFH due to illness or whatever. My CEO refuses to allow full or part time WFH, for no justified reason except overseeing us or some bullshit about office culture. Anyway, this middle manager recently had 2 kids, they are under a year old. His spouse works a physical/in-person job, and our CEO won’t let us WFH so he is forced to put the kids in daycare a lot of the time. I recently talked with him about this and learned that he pays up to $2k per month to keep the kids in daycare. Also…
I work with IT in Sweden. Recently, my employer acquired an American company from Florida. Many of those American employees were affected by Hurricane Ian. Today we got request from the American company's CEO to donate to those colleagues via Gofundme, with has been set up by the American company. It's not clear what the money is supposed to be used for other than “aid”. My question is, is this a common thing in America? Are workers expected to provide financial aid to each other? Doesn't the government do anything for its citizens at all? Also, this is not a small company, they should be able to provide quite a lot of “aid” on their own.. I suspect this may be a difference in company culture, but I'd just wanted to know what the deal is.
