Hi, There's a video on Youtube (quite lengthy ~40 minutes) I just watched about philosophy of work presented in a very nice and digestible way by Abigail (back then she was still an “Oliver”). She's talking about her experience doing minimal wage jobs, about Universal Basic Income, and I highly recommend it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_X-812q_Jc After watching it, I feel like I understand the game of life a little better and the stories I read here from time to time and why some people just won't quit their job if they don't like it (since I did quit, at least 3 times, and always wondered why people here don't). Her videos are brilliant, and I especially like the one about Social Constructs, but it has nothing to do with antiwork, just “we live in a society”.
My friend is a roofer and can’t work if it’s too hot, rainy or too cold, but still makes more money than my boyfriend who isn’t on salary? It doesn’t add up to me. How do companies pay salary if they don’t work for half of the year?
So anytime I apply for a job on Indeed and it asks for a skills test, I just refuse to do them. I realized 30 minutes here and there was adding up to a ton of extra time every week. I'm done supplying unpaid labor and time. I think the application and interviewing process takes more than enough of that as it is. Normally I don't get called when I don't complete those, but this time I did. I had an interview and she referred me to the second round on the spot. Funny enough, the company seems pretty good and the glassdoor reviews are also pretty decent. I just got an alert from Indeed telling me “last chance to complete the skills test.” I'm not sure if this is an auto reminder or if it's pushed from the company. Hello reddit. I'm a 22 year old Autistic person, and I'm done. I'm sick of the rat race. I just work a meaningless, pointless job, and for what? To be rich someday? As if that's going to happen. I'd like to have more time to pursue my art and learn, perhaps go back to school. I figure that many Autistic people qualify for SSDI but I'm not sure if I would since I have been able to “manage” at my job. I use quotes because by manage I mean “hang on to my sanity by a thin margin, whilst I get increasingly discontented to the point where I ponder quitting every day” Do they give Disability to people who can manage at work, even if they have terrible social skills and can't form relationships with coworkers or the boss?
