So I work at a job that runs 24hrs a day done in two 12hr shifts. There's a lot of down time and during covid they let things slide a lot more and allowed cell phone usage be a little more normal. Now that they want to get back to pre-covid they are now saying that if we catch you on your cell phone in the work area you have to show us that what you were doing on it is work related or get written up (you get 3 write ups and you're fired). Me personally thinks they can get fucked but also it's my personal property and I don't have to show you anything regardless if it's work related or not. Feels like a major bully/power move in a job scenario where there's always hours of downtime. Can they legally write you up for not showing proof of…

“When someone works for less pay than she can live on — when, for example, she goes hungry so that you can eat more cheaply and conveniently — then she has made a great sacrifice for you, she has made you a gift of some part of her abilities, her health, and her life. The ‘working poor,’ as they are approvingly termed, are in fact the major philanthropists of our society.” —Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America
HR Departments everywhere are woefully under qualified and under educated and wayyyyyyy overpowered for their level of literacy. But it seems, in state government, that problem is even worse. Short summary: I was hired into a position in state government as a GIS Analyst. The position posting said “GIS Analyst III”, everything in my resume and cover letter was tailored to my education and experience in using various GIS software, every single question in my interview focused on my GIS background (literally every single one), and frankly, if the hiring managers wanted to hire someone with regular experience, they could’ve hired any one of the 3000+ people that’re employed by the state, but they didn’t, they hired the one with a very unique background in xxxx (intentionally left blank) and GIS (a specialty software). Flash forward 1.5 years, and I come to find out that my only other counterpart, i.e.…
This is how I’m feeling everyday
Recent ransomware scandal
Recently my local hospital was hacked for ransomware and my moms ss number was leaked, she's been having to talk to the fbi and jump through hoops to keep herself safe. There have been more and more of these ransomware cases and data leaks lately, and it makes me very anxious. I can't help but feel like cases like this are only going to get more popular until capitalism collapses.
I am deaf. The open interviews are non-accessible for majority of the deaf community. Most of the times I'd apply for a job and I would get a response but only to find out that they dropped the date of open-interview. Most of the time I'd just try to apply other jobs, but it bothers me so much that it's non-accessible for me and my deaf community on trying to find a employment opportunity. Sometimes I'd try to contact the recruiters to inform them about my disability that needs an accommodations, to have one on one interview with ASL interpreter. Why's that? So the interview would be done in less than 30 minutes instead of trying to read lips (this is considered as unprofessional courtesy due to not getting the full information from them), paper and pen, and other many ways of long term communications. Often, I get ignored, flaked…
Just quit a grossly underpaid job
As the title says, I just quit my job by doing a no call no show. I started working for a local gas station about two and a half months ago and here are the quick pointers that led to me saying f this There is only two employee's, plus a GM and Assistant manager Both of the other employee's half ass the job but all that happens is I do what the shift before me didn't do on top of what the shift after me won't do plus my own duties. The pay is absolute crap Two days ago I was forced to come in even though I could bareley get out of bed from being so sick because the manager didn't deem me sick enough For the past two weeks almost everyday I have been asked to come in two hours early, but the day I mentioned above…
Unorganized rant So basically my new medication makes me feel like shit, and I woke up feeling weak, feverish, sore, and extra tired and brain fog but I didn't have an actual fever so I still came to work. I was planning on asking if I could leave just an hour early, if there was enough coverage so when I get in, I ask one of the managers (not the closing manager, I'm scheduled to close so its the closing managers decision if I leave early or not) if anybody called out yet and she's like “not that I know of, why?” And I go “well I'm trying to see if there's enough coverage cause I was gonna ask [closing manager] if I could leave early” and she immediately just says “no, no, absolutely not.” (Without even asking me why or anything) Which is weird to me cause its not…
