Was I fired?
I live in SC and when I got to work today I wasn’t feeling great. I told my boss I needed to leave because mentally I wasn’t together. They then said “I need you today, if you leave then it’s over.” Was I fired? Can I still apply for unemployment? Also take note that 2 other employees called out that morning and it was okay. Do I need to do anything to cover myself? Thanks yall
I’m talking tests, technical tasks, writing assignments and reports etc following successful interviews where the potential employers are happy with you so far, Now they want you to prove how good you are in practice. I’ve been asked by 3 different companies despite being offered the same role from a company where I didn’t have to do jack. How do you feel about them?
The situation is a little strange, i will admit. I (21 nb) started my job at a privately owned chain gas station in Florida. I was “trained” (i say “trained” bc it wasn't really training, i learned 6 basic tasks to keep the store running and that was it) on third shift for 3 days, then worked 2nd shift for about a week, then was placed full time on third shift and worked two weeks. About a week ago, Bossman asked if I could meet with him to discuss my schedule, and he set a day and time. Well, i show up, he's not there, and so I ask him what's up: “there was an emergency at another store, come back tomorrow 3pm” alright, so i go back tomorrow 3pm. he essentially pulls me into his office and asks, “what exactly is it that you do at night?” Me: “i…
Forced to take excessive call
I am a healthcare worker, I work in a special procedures department for a large healthcare system. We have to be on call for emergencies and trauma. It is not unusual to work 10+ hours shift one day then be called in in the middle of the night for a case that could be several hours, and then come back the following day for another 10+ hour shift. Like all hospitals we’re understaffed and are expected to take call a minimum of five days per week. Hospital refuses to hire any help. If someone has to take off we will take call every day. Work life balance is nonexistent. Is this legal? do we have any recourse?
This is hilarious.
I used to teach part time for about 5 years at a very small night school just for some extra cash. I was very loyal to this school and never really did anything to warrant any kind of reprimand. I taught a couple days a week at this week, while being a full time high school teacher during the day. I really enjoyed it because I taught elementary students at the school so it was a nice change up from my daily job. The head of school during my final year decided to nitpick about insignificant things throughout the year. She also decided to question my student assessments for no valid reason. It all finally blew up in December right before break and I decided that I had had enough. I emailed the administration over Christmas break and said that January would be my last month and that I was…

I took a new position that offered a decent pay raise, but with double the work and responsibilities. Long story short, the pay increase ended up being significantly less than promised, but was told the rest would come at the beginning of next year when the new budget started. Last week I asked for a COL raise for myself and my small department, only to be told that my partner’s new job’s salary should mean I am comfortable. In what world does your spouse/partner/roommate/etc’s pay have anything to do with someone’s salary reflecting the work done for their own company?! Her pay has nothing to do with mine. And the cost of everything is rising by the week. A paltry 9% COL salary bump will only mean My promised pay has kept up with the skyrocketing costs of being alive in this neoliberal hellhole, and can’t even be considered an…
