I have a surgery coming up and my doctor signed papers for me to take job-protected leave for two months while I heal. A portion of it will be unpaid but I live with my mom and the break will be nice. I meet with my two supervisors to see about redistributing my projects for that period. Before one of the leads even wishes me luck or anything that might be considered proper when preparing for this, emphasizes that she hopes I return early so it’s more convenient for them. No one was asking you to come back early from the Bahamas and that was just a vacation. I’m having life-changing surgery, my body is changing permanently. Not to mention we have 3x more people than when I started. You’ll live, the same way we did when my coworker took maternity leave at a much busier time of the year…
So, my working class fellows, as the title says I (and all other colleagues working on a relatively small project) got slapped with termination letters one day. We're foreign workers and I had just returned to my home country (with work laptop) one month before all of this went down. They are offering us just one month's pay as severance. Not even after the month in course. I mean, we're only getting paid for the last month we've worked + any off days we didn't take. In light of this, I am planning to never return (all signing is done online anyways) and keep the laptop. It is brand new and more powerful than what I already have.
