This desk setup at ikea
With my kid at IKEA and they have this depressing work setup. The bowl so you can work from home through your lunch.
I was in middle management before I changed companies and I often had to hand out write up, PIPs and once a termination I didn’t really agree with. I had to ask people on the overnight shift to take on an extra shift on their night off but ended up manning that ship myself a time or two. I had to deny people time off because we were short staffed on their requested day off, and I’ve filled in when the team was bombarded. If I fucked up the schedule, I worked the fucked up shift, I didn’t just say oops my bad. Some teams are just really toxic and I’m still shaking off the stress from when I was in that role but I often wonder what I could’ve done differently to support some of them. I didn’t have space to say no I’m not making this write up…
I think i need to apply somewhere less stressful and for less hours
Rant: Fuck my workplace.
Ever see those workplaces that are good pay, but only that way because they treat their employees badly? Well I’m (28F) in that environment and it’s the worst. Some of my co-workers hate me and isolate themselves from me and it’s obvious that the supervisor will turn us against each other to make them feel better and act like they’re not at fault. They want to belittle the millennials and zoomers when we could literally be working in a minimum wage job that has no required skills. I’m glad I have good pay but my bosses and the owner still gets so much payment and my supervisor (I told about her in a previous sub) is intimidating and berating. Everyone works for the pay first, job second but the job itself is exhausting and some people don’t get it. And yes, my supervisor appears to be a boomer.
I know generally we tend to side “against” the employer on many issues. However I believe this is one example where it actually protects both the employees and the company by helping to prevent hostile and toxic work environments caused by close work relationships. In a perfect world where everyone is a mature adult and all relationships work out or breakups are handled well then maybe something like this isn't necessary. However from my perspective I do not trust most people to handle these situations correctly on their own. I understand these policies aren't very common so I even asked why a lot of companies don't have them. It seems that most people consider it too much control without looking at the bigger picture that it helps the employees as well. People are also used to work relationships so they think they should be common and allowed just because they…
I'm freaking tf out right now. The end of the year is only 2 months and some change away and the job market is absolute shit where I live. I'm making good money where I am now, most of which I've been putting toward bills (obviously)… However, my cat has had several expensive vet appointments recently due to some complications she's experiencing and she has a few more expensive vet visits coming up for some blood work and xrays and I cannot afford to lose my job before I can take care of her, which is what I'm most worried about right now. Without the money I'm making now, I wouldn't be able to afford to take care of her and pay my bills. I'd literally have to choose between her and my bills and I can't do that. She's on a cheap diet of canned tuna only (vet's orders)…
I work in Box Office for events and was struggling with managing access for visitors and the site manager wasn't cooperating with me. We get along well usually, but for the past few times that I was working she was being a bit too strict about the rules. Like not letting people leave their coat and bags with me where I had some space. This was because we didn't have a cloakroom. On a different day, I was also trying to help a cleaner for one of tbe companies to access the building, I recognise her and even though we weren't expecting her I thought it would be fine to let her in. The site manager asked for me to communicate that she needs an email confirmation to gain entry. I didn't want to do that as I felt it was unncessary to make someone prove that they're a cleaner…
