I worked in a management position for a small (family-owned) company. I'm now unemployed, and on the hook for a large hospital bill. LONG BACKSTORY BELOW, ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED The specifics: As mentioned above, I had health issues that (after battling pain and discomfort for the 2 weeks that this issue ran on) I finally decided to go to urgent care to see what was going on. This was on 10PM Wednesday evening that eventually when all was said and done, I didn't leave the emergency room (that urgent care referred me to) until 4:30AM Thursday. Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep, so I informed my boss as soon as I got home that I would not be in for work that day (Thursday) as well as emailed the documentation of my hospital visit. I got some sleep, and when I awoke I recieved an email stating…
Toronto serf here. I worked as a temp employee for many jobs, including the public sector. There was never a chance for me to get perm to begin with. It was contract after contract until I got laid off my main temp job unexpectedly. I got laid off because the contract has ended. However, for that job I made way more than minimum wage, so my EI payments are higher than working for minimum wage in Toronto. I am eligible for 8 months of EI. As a condition of EI, I have to be ready and willing to work, but it seems that many of the jobs pay below what my EI gives me, and employers and temp agencies are always asking me why I have a mild gap in my resume (as I waited months for EI and collected in the third month after applying). So is it advisable…
Parking – work vent
So at work all the mangers park in the disabled parking spaces, I made a note on those tell us what we can do better cards and so did other employees once they noticed an actual disabled person struggle to get into the offices. The senior managers now have decided to changes these places from disabled to “reserved” parking Totalling disgusting but ones who make the rules can do what ever the fuck they want
my boss is very not good
shitty title, i just am at a loss for how i can describe this. i work for a small locally owned business in a tourist town (so no HR or anything) and i just need to vent about how badly my boss treats me. dont even know what my point in posting this is, i just need a place to put my thoughts. today my boss called me a racial slur. im mexican, and the town i work in is EXTREMELY white. not the first time either. im currently the only remaining employee, (everyone has gone back to school, i am a dropout) but during the summer he treated me and all other female employees horribly. today i found out he has been stealing my tips, and cheating me out of my pay. i do a lot of outdoor repair jobs here, and people tip for those jobs. found out…
Popular or unpopular take?
Been thinking about this for a bit and wanted to gauge the temperature on it: I think the ideal work week is 25 hours. No more, no less. 5 hours a day is long enough to get a lot done and contribute substantially to whatever your place of work does, and short enough to feel like you’re not there forever and have a full day outside of work. Keyword here is ideal. Most people won’t find themselves in a position to live this way anytime soon. But this sounds like what we should be striving towards as a society.
I don’t even know where to post this, my large department store (Midwest clone of Walmart) was literally leaking sewage from pipes around the store and the back toilets flooded the toy department and while the water has gone there’s still shit smears around and a disgusting puddle with flies behind our electronics/photo counter. No one seems to give a crap and just placed wet floor signs everywhere. This is in Indiana is it even legal to keep this store open?? At least tie off some departments I can see streaks from where people have ran their carts through, and yes we carry groceries! And advice on who to report this to would be great, we’ve had a plumber in but it’s not helping.
This is frustrating. I had to leave a job after injuring my knee and they couldn't provide accommodation. I've been applying to jobs where I can sit or just stand occasionally. 3 months have passed and 5 of those types of jobs I applied for haven't got back to me. Meanwhile every retail/server/grocery store job calls me within a day. I ask each one if they can provide accommodation for my knee but they say they can't. I'm not further injuring my knee but it's rediculous how hard it is to get a job. I hate this situation.
