Hey fellow antiwork-ers, As a rail worker, let me tell you, this job sucks. The hours are long, the pay is terrible, and the working conditions are unsafe. It's a never-ending cycle of exhaustion and stress, and I'm at my wit's end. I'm on my feet for 12 hours a day, sometimes more, and the pay is so low that I can barely make ends meet. And to make matters worse, the working conditions are incredibly dangerous. I've seen colleagues get injured on the job, and it's only a matter of time before something happens to me. But it's not just the physical challenges that make this job so miserable. The constant stress and anxiety of never having a break, of never being able to relax, is taking a serious toll on my mental health. I'm constantly on edge, and I feel like I'm on the brink of a breakdown.…
I am currently working in a MNC for over 3 years now. Next year will be my third year. For the past year, we had a vacancy for our superior position and at last they found a person to fill that post. At first, everything seemed to be doing well. But lately over the past few months, he have been coming up with his own rules which aren't relevant to our job scope. He started creating many demerit points for example if we didn't complete a training proposed by HR or if we forgot to change our leave in the schedule. I do understand from his perspective that he wanted to go by the book. But what pisses me off is that he doesn't implement these rules on those who are around his age. He is in his early thirties and I'm in my early twenties. I noticed that whenever…

Hello I just wanted to vent/get some feedback of what to do. My shift was from 2-6 pm (Picking up) and I had to go to tutor a student right away at 605PM. I work at a pool as a lifeguard and my supervisor was constantly criticizing me on deck and rearranging our positions during the last 5 minutes of my shift. Beforehand, she always singled me out and talked to me on deck. I always try to keep my head down and do my work, clean up and hose off deck and do my best to teach but she always finds something wrong with the way I guard/teach. The feedback she gives is passive-aggressive and when she interrupted my lessons by telling me to push students to swim the whole length (when I noticed one girl was gassing out and we started to do half lengths). She got up…
Good for them, but ffs we have a union and its still not enough. Everyone is understaffed, underpaid, and overworked. They rekeyed the store to cause more issues for a little bit but couldn't pay us a living wage? Honestly. Absurd.
So I'm lurking here almost daily and I'm totally convinced we live in a complete bullshit system. I live in Italy were people working in gastronomy, bars etc. barely makes it to the end of the month while owners are stupidly rich, engineers are paid like shit and companies costantly complains about “We DoN'T FiNd AnyOne” when they want to pay a Software engineer below the average salary and so fcking on. Now, I'm an engineer with 6 years experience (I'm around 30 years old) and I manage highly complex industrial installations from the technical and economical sides. I was given a market worth around 250 kEUR/year, now I'm managing around 1.5/2 MEUR/year. I make around 50% more than the average Italian salary and around double the median one and what I feel is that I'm payed with the crumbles left from my work. When I'm contacted by head hunters…
Mandatory OT on weekends
Hi all! I’m a salaried worker for a Housing Authority (we are not part of the city government, but I qualified for PSLF, so I assume some form of government employee) who works a M-F week from 730A to 4P. I am not paid overtime, I get “comp time” on a 1:1 basis (1 hour worked over, 1 hour comp time). I’m in the state of OK in the US. We are now being required to work in office on Saturdays for 6 hours to “catch up” on work. This is non negotiable and failure to do so will result in disciplinary action. We are also not allowed to take planned time off or use our comp hours until sometime next year because of these deadlines. But that’s not my biggest issue right now. I’m Jewish. Saturday is Shabbat. While I do not keep shomer shabbat, I do refrain from…
Yesterday, I covered for reception for the day. Since I need to work from the reception desk frequently, my email is signed in to the receptionist’s computer. This is the case for other coworkers as well. I needed to find an email I sent a while back, so typed a key word into Outlook’s search bar. The default settings caused my coworker’s email to show up. These women have spoken badly about every single person in the office since I’ve been here (which seems to be a major reason for the high turnover at the firm), so I expected this would happen and have been ignoring it for the most part. The issue I have is that the claims in this email are entirely wrong. Is it a bad idea to email them explaining they’ve misunderstood the situation they were gossiping about?
Just heard about this on the Radio and thought it we be good to share some positive news. 12 companies chose to participate and all 12 have decided to continue with a 4 day work week. https://www.thejournal.ie/four-day-work-week-trial-successful-5933095-Nov2022/
Career Mistake
New to this sub, so feel free to take down if it’s not in the right place, or if the story is not appropriate. I was at a large company for 5 years (1st job out of college) and finally had enough of the BS. Won’t go into details, but I have high anxiety, sometimes debilitating, and the job got so bad that I put out my resume and was contacted by a recruiter. I interviewed for a 90 day temp-to-hire position just to get out of my current job ASAP because I thought anything would be better than what I had. There were multiple red flags that I didn’t know about at the time. The interviewers talked about how the “team” is full of middle aged women & it’d be nice to have a younger male on the team. They also brought up how they are a family. “We…
