Has anyone previously worked a low paying job without growth potential and quit with no savings or new job lined up? I’m in my late 30s, college graduate working a full-time job getting $14.75/hour with 25 cent annual raises. Boss won’t increase pay more than this. I work really hard and facing burnout. Patients compliment my hard work and attention to their needs to me and the boss! But I feel exploited in this economy.
Edit: Just thinking about all of the amazing things we create and services that we perform for each other as a human race. It’s a beautiful thing that’s become ugly due to unfair pay and inflation via money printing/unfair distribution due to federal reserve and bank collusion.
worked 30 hour weeks from 14 was encouraged and pressured to defer uni during covid so that everyone else (more $$$ employees) didn’t have to work and I was scheduled to work by myself, every day for months on end -would pay for taxis/Ubers for me to leave school during the day/skip school for me to work instead I was Sick with the flu during Xmas season when I was 16 & 18 (retail job so picture the rush). I was virtually forced to work and they made me nap in a box on my 30 min break during a 10 hour shift. No shock the flu lasted for weeks both times employer would suggest that we void our penalty rates during public holiday, saying that employees previously had done so and it was so nice of them not paying super, unless investigated formally by authorities schedule me to work…
[UK] Inequality between colleagues
At my office remote work is only allowed in special occasions (i.e. technicians in the flat). I mentioned thou that working from the office full time affects my mental health, my line manager knows I go to therapy, and I've asked many times to be allowed to work three afternoons from home (office morning and home after lunch), the answer was always 'No, you know that our culture/policy is to work from the office'. However, another colleague in my team is allowed to work from home three DAYS a week, like if it was by contract. Our roles and tasks are no different, except I have less years of experience, even thou I am excellent at what I do. What is this all about? Also in my team I'm the only one that doesn't speak perfect English as I come from another country and this plus this remote work things,…
laid off after 6 months
Just got off a mandatory conference call where myself and roughly 1000 other Assurant repair professionals were told our jobs are being eliminated.
Jack of all Trades?
So I work for a nonprofit and when I was hired I was explained that me job is an admin position. Move forward 6 months and I have gone from working 6 days in a row, 14 hours days, doing physical activities and constantly being present with no breaks. To days where I sit at my desk and do absolutely nothing for weeks on end. Recently, one of my co workers has decided that I can do anything, so I have now turned into maintenance, housekeeping, and personal assistant. The executive director seems to think I am not intelligent of any sorts cause they are constantly checking in to see if I have done my job. I am getting pretty fed up with it. I also have been told that when winter comes I will be working 5 to 6 days in a row, 14 hours days, no breaks, on…
Today my company laid off my entire dept through a zoom call. They are offering severance pay and everyone has 60 days before we officially close down. If I put in my 2 week notice instead of working the 60 days, am I still entitled to that severance pay? Thanks.
I started at Aldi full-time a few months ago and it was going really well at first but I just hate it now. They were adamant about having open availability which I gave them. The last 2 months they’ve only really scheduled me late shifts so like 1pm-9pm. I wouldn’t mind that shift if I had a mixture of early shifts and some mids. As I said when they hired me they said i’d work a variety of shifts just not nights. The worst thing is they give me 1 or 2 truck shifts a month. I’ve only worked a handful of these early morning shifts and I am not quick unloading an entire pallet. Then managers are annoyed that i’m not moving quick enough, but I find it difficult to get quick with it when they never give me the chance. One day last week I had a really…
Down with Corporate
So awhile back I was working as an accountant for a tech company in Texas and I had sent out an email to a mentor in the company telling them my job felt worthless and I had no hope of getting a raise or being promoted. Somehow HR picked up on the email and two weeks later I got called into an online meeting during Covid, to find out that I was getting laid off. When I asked why I was shown the email and told that the work I was doing was worthless and irrelevant and that they had no reason to keep me on. Up to that point I was pulling 12 hour days 6 days a week to meet vendor/client needs by moving millions in revenue around the company. I was then told I would work the next week and half before getting let go along with…
