So basically I work in Illinois at a outdoor high ropes course and zip line place, during bad weather we are forced to close for 30 minutes until the weather chills out a bit, if it doesn’t the timer resets. A few employees are “allowed” to stay on the clock while the rest need to clock out and wait around until MAYBE we get the chance to re open. Is this legal?
Got a new job and didn't give those assholes even an hours worth of notice. I just quit coming to work because fuck em.

Management is panicking, they had the money all along but decided to not pay us. They thought I was bluffing but actually did it. Very sad that it takes leaving a job I somewhat like to trigger pay adjustments to meet market rates.
I started at this company 4 months ago having no experience in this industry. It's a “no experience required, training provided” job, and I was very open the fact that I'd never done anything like it before. Everyone assured me that wasn't a problem, so I went ahead with it. 3 months in, my supervisor pulled me aside and had this long-winded talk that boiled down to “I've noticed some things about you, and I'm not sure you're going to make it in this department. Another department needs help for a week or two, and I think it would be good experience for you. Plus, people switch between the two pretty often”. I don’t work overtime and I won’t do side work. Saturday morning she gets off the phone with her father and says we’re going to do drop some stuff off and I can look at the bathroom floor that he wants done. Flooring, new toilet, and new vanity and trim. I was annoyed that she volunteered me but said ok, you two can work out the payment. Our dishwasher went so a few hundred bucks would help. She got pissed off that I would charge her father (meanwhile I just got roped into doing other trim work for him for free a couple months ago).
