the work group chat popped off this morning because the close was bad last night. The close was me and a new starter. I don’t know how new he is – I’ve just got back from 3 weeks off. He smashed through the close, knew what he was doing so I cracked on with all my own jobs and extra things off the bar, helping the floor etc. Come the end he was like ‘everything on front bar is done’ and I was like, great! Finished my stuff and we went to help the floor before clocking out. Texts this morning are about how awful his part of the close was, things not done properly etc. i didn’t reply but god I KNOW when I go in tomorrow I’m going to be given the shit for it. I’m a bartender, not a supervisor. If I see someone doing something wrong,…
My friend has worked at this company for years. Their hours were 8-4, but they elected to work through their paid) 30 minute lunch break and would leave at 3:30. This was never an issue with management/the owner and my friend is their hardest working/most productive/highest revenue generating employee. This morning all employees were informed they have to take a now UNPAID 30 minute lunch AND two 15 minute breaks, and must stay until 5pm. Is it just me or does it not seem fair that they’re now taking up 9 hours of my friend’s life when they go above and beyond and just so happen to finish their work by 3:30? Friend no longer feels any motivation to work hard for said employer. (Employer was also caught by friend yesterday putting GPS on all the company vehicles and they weren’t planning on informing anyone about it)
I'm not saying work for slave wages or put up with shitty bosses. But I really hope everyone in this sub finds a job they love and a boss who respects them, because they're both out there. A person isn't automatically shitty because they are a manager. Managers can learn from you if you are direct and honest when necessary. Every manager started working as an employee too (with a few exceptions). We ALL utilize services of working persons, whether it's the person who stocks the shelves at your local grocery, or the driver of your public transport, etc. Everyone deserves respect in the workplace from their superiors, coworkers, and customers. But not every job is shitty, which seems to be a theme here very often. And not every business owner is evil. If we all approached every business owner with that mentality, we will be left with nothing but…
Is it okay to not give a 2 week notice?
I am currently looking for another job. My current job isn’t a good fit for me. They treat me well, the pay is decent and the benefits are really good but I’m not happy there. Plus it’s a 50 minute commute one way and I’m tired of waking up so early for that drive. When I get a new job, after I accept the position, I want to just resign from my current job that day, without giving a notice. I know it’s standard to do 2 weeks but I just want to be done ASAP. Would it be okay to just resign without a 2 week notice? Edit: I’ve only been at my current job for 2 months and don’t plan on using it on my resume or using any references from there
Why do companies seem to not like WFH?
I’ve seen lots of posts on here about how companies try to take away WFH option and encourage going to back to the office, why is that and how does it benefit a company ?
Ever since the pandemic started I've been trying to change careers and find a job that let's me work from home. Even the easiest jobs that only require a High School Diploma, quiet work space, fast typing speed, etc still reject me. I am not so sure if it is my resume not having enough buzzwords or if my resume is getting rejected because the resume AI tracking system can't read pdf files or something. But all of these rejections are getting on my nerves.
I always read here about CEOs making hundred times more than an employee, let me show you something terryfing from an e-commerce leader on the Czech Republic market. It's an example, that it can always be worse. I've been browsing through public financial records and found out, that in 2020, the company made a profit – just one owner – (after taxes etc.) of 2,14BLN CZK – 93M USD. The total yearly cost for an average worker was 720K CZK – 31K USD – this is not just an average in this company, but more or less in the whole country and i have the same amazing wage as well.. (After all deductions – tax, social, health.., employee receives just 60% of this amount, that is 432K CZK – 19K USD) Just for context, a flat of 80-100m square is around 400-500K USD with an average yearly wage of net…
