I just quit my restaurant job and it feels like a weight has been lifted from me. Now, I'm not saying I like my new job but I'll take a permanent position with at least some benefits over working in a restaurant. I worked there for 2.5 years, through the entire pandemic, only called in sick like 6 or 7 times in that period, and never got a single raise, only increased our wages due to minimum wage going up. The owner is an incompetent jerk who takes it out on his staff. His brother, a chef who has worked in michelin star restaurants, told him to give up and cut his losses after his previous restaurant failed, and he decided to go against his brother and open a restaurant and a bar with no idea of how to run either. Now here's a long list of all the…
new daycare job keeps getting me sick
I didn’t even know it was possible to get sick twice in such a short timeframe. I caught RSV about 2 weeks ago and now I’m coming down with something AGAIN. I hate this shit. And of course being a daycare teacher means my attendance is crucial. I want to quit this job so bad but I don’t have something else lined up yet. This is my first job, and my first full-time job as well. I can’t do this shit. Idk how anyone does this shit
We are Actively Becoming Slaves
Our current situation is a lot more dire than I think most people could even imagine, and we need to do something about it immediately. This is what I mean: We as a civilization are quickly approaching an unprecedented point in history where we can, have to, choose whether to create a utopia or dystopia. The key to this choice is the advent of complete automation of labor, which is something that is inevitable and even becoming common. The fact that humanity can now build workers who do not experience want or need, or require water or food or sleep is an opportunity we've never had before, but if we allow that opportunity to only utilized by the already-powerful in the world, the rest of us will become slaves forever. The fact is that, if, in a future where robots produce everything every human could ever need, only a few…
Robots are coming for your job.
This slide from the Stanley Parable
I worked at Applebee's a few weeks ago. I'd been there about four months and some change, maybe five. When I was hired, my pay was $7.25 plus tips as the Hostess. After a few paychecks, I noticed my pay went down to $4 and hour! I waited a bit because I was too scared of getting fired but eventually demanded to know why my pay had been cut without even being told. The general manager told me that I was supposed to be making $4 instead of $7. This was after my hours had already been cut to two days a week instead if the five I started with! (Note: All this started happening after the new management came in. Should've seen it coming but as a 19-20 year old, I was ignorant to how crappy a workplace could be) The general manager brought my pay back up to…
The Hiring Process is Lie
Because of life (high rent, food, a lawyer, etc), I needed to get a second job. I asked my friend if where she works was hiring and she said: “yes they always are hiring, I will even put in a form for you so I will know that you will be looked at.” My friend knew that I was a great fit for the job because of the amount of experience I have, and just as a small detail this is an entry-level position. She helped me do my resume so it would be noticed. Everything so far was going great until there was the personality test. I hate these things, quite simply they don't work or benefit a company at all. Now I really wanted this job. Even though it was a customer service job, the starting pay was $4 over the minimum wage, guaranteed raises at the end…
