I worked In a union almost 3 years I was fired in August without proper representation but I had my greavance meeting on Tuesday. After the union made management review the video proving I did nothing wrong they told me I'd hear back by today to see if I get to return back to work. Well I haven't gotten a call back and I'm nervous. I emailed HR and was told they haven't made a decision and they probably won't have an answer by Monday
Obviously satire but it fits here.
sectoral bargaining
France and the us both have union rates of about 10%. So I was wondering why quality of life and labor protections are so much stronger in France. Apparently, they have a thing called sectorial bargaining. And it seems like California is trying to implement a very basic version of that for fast food: https://www.npr.org/2022/09/14/1123054332/a-super-sized-labor-experiment
Hi, I'm not sure if AntiWork is the best place to post this, but I'm not sure where else to find this information as I don't have a lot of labour movement ties, and I'm not happy with my own union. My Local has two units, A & B. Important context to know is that people in my union are NOT active… it's really hard to get people involved, let alone just out to social events. Unit B is especially a problem, as the majority of contracts are short term & temporary, so there is a ton of turnover, and many people employed in this unit don't even realize that they're unionized. We're overdue to bargain for new contracts. I was supposed to be on the bargaining team for Unit B, but I was recently promoted to a position in Unit A, and now everyone else who was bargaining for…
That Overton Window’s a real fucker.
I was reading the post earlier today about someone who can’t imagine working their whole life til 65 or whatnot, and felt it was hopeless, I believe they or other commenters said they wanted to die. I hope this might be helpful for those who want to find meaningful work. I work as a Hearing Aid Practitioner and think of this song/lyric when I walk home from harder days. I generally love the work & find personal fulfillment in helping others hear their communities and the world around them, but the ‘job’ can be frustrating. There is a lyric by John K Samson, which may be an interpolation if a quote from Joanna Macy which I will include further below. “And recommit yourself to the healing of the world And to the welfare of all creatures upon it Pursue a practice That will strengthen your heart” The lyrics are based…
Like the title says. It's my allotted break time under California law. I get 2 10 minute breaks and it's my 1st one. So I'm outside for some nicotine and sunshine.
Don't think I am over interpreting this song, the man himself said it#Composition_and_writing). “Imagine no possession” is the end of private property, the most blatantly communist line “Imagine there's no countries” is the end of boundaries, the end of nationalism, and overall the Alter-globalization (it's worth the click) “Imagine no religion” is the end of religions, known as Marxist atheism. Communism and actual leftist movements have often been anti religious, and responsible for the separation of the state and the Church in many countries. “Imagine all the people sharing the world”, self explanatory, John Lennon is calling for peace, and unity. He often delivers literally peaceful messages in his songs (like this one), that could be interpreted as anti-militarism, a subject directly linked to capitalism anyways. “You may say I'm a dreamer” this line may be deeper than it sounds. He means something important with that: that communist world he's…
