Hey all, I love this sub and spend time reading here. Here is my little vent. I'm a middle manager at a big company. I have 4 supervisors under me and more than 50 employee in the department. I do the planning while they do the execution. I'm very close to them and I always make sure to let them know their value. Anyhow, it is difficult to give 2 of them days off at the same time, so we talked about this and decided to train some backups from the employees so if the supervisor is absent for any reason, the back up can handle the work for that day “with my support and any other supervisor who is present.” This worked greatly, until one of the back-ups “let's call her A” turned out to be amazing at the job. english is not my first language my (17F) uncle (39M, mom's brother) just started a small business, I'd call it a corner shop or something like that, we sell food items and some personal hygiene ones as well, along with candy and other stuff, the place is this woman's (my boss) property but the business itself it's my uncle's as well as 80% of the things we sell, i started working two weeks ago and i worked before at another small business he had made a year ago (his wife takes care of that one now), i work as a cashier technically, i also clean up and make the shelves look pretty in my country it's a normal thing to send kids for errands, usually as long as they can remember what they're buying they're fine because some parents send them with debit cards and the pin, ID number and…

I work at a grocery store in California. Recently I heard one of my managers claim that “eventually” we will not be able to have ANY drinks at the check stands, whether we can provide a receipt or not. He also claimed that we would be required to keep any purchased drinks in the break room with a receipt. He said if we needed a drink of water we would need to get it on our respective breaks. I find this extremely dehumanizing, (not to mention stupid, as all of our checkers will decide to leave the check stand every 5 minutes for the water fountain in silent protest) and I am hoping I can report my employer to the labor board should this sad excuse for a policy go through. Does anybody know if this violates labor law?

I've worked at a company for several years now and recently wrapped up my unpaid maternity leave. During my time at home, my husband and I decided we would be better off if I became a SAHM and resigned from my job. Problem was, I had to hit my next anniversary or I would lose a lot of money in retirement- so I went back and submitted my notice. She took it badly and it has been a week from hell. My baby didn't eat all of Tuesday so I had to run home and feed her. My boss was in a conference so I sent her a message letting her know that it was an emergency and outlining what was completed for the day. I’m not going in. I’m already expecting to get calls in the morning from my boss wondering where I’m at and guilt tripping me for not coming in. I have family in town specifically to see me and my fiancé tomorrow so I can’t exactly blow them off for work. I’m salary so it’s not like I even get any extra pay for coming in. Boss also made us work through Labor Day weekend INCLUDING Labor Day! I haven’t had a weekend off since the 4th of July! The other day I came into work clean shaven (I usually have a short scruffy beard) and the boss made a joke about if I had an interview coming up. I’m quitting my “part time” job because I’ve been working 11 hours 7 days a week for weeks now. It was depicted as part time when I accepted the position. When I brought it up to my boss, I was told that’s “just the lifestyle.” It’s a small company and he doesn’t even know how to do what I do so he’s most likely going to flip out when I tell him. He’s also rude, inappropriate and condescending. He texts as early as 6am and as late as 11pm and asks a ton of personal questions. If he gives me attitude when I resign tomorrow I’m not giving any notice. Not sure if this is the right spot for this but I needed to vent.
