This shouldn’t be allowed
I work at a non-profit major thrift store. During one of our meetings, the store manager was discussing about the use of breaks and bathroom breaks. He said we shouldn’t be using the bathroom unless we are on break. I understand not to just go willy-nilly, but the way he talked about it mad it seem like he would take our breaks away if we used the bathroom in the middle of working. Most of our staff is 50+ years old, you cannot indirectly threaten to take breaks away if somebody needs to take a piss a little more than others. I live in a “Right-to-Work” state. He said (I’m paraphrasing) “This is a right to work state. It’s not required to give you breaks. You guys need to start using your breaks for the restroom. I don’t want to have to do anything drastic. I understand and emergency is…
Located in the US. As title says, threatening mandatory overtime if we don’t finish project by the 19th. I work in a warehouse and we’re sending several hundred pallets to new warehouse. Each pallet has to be restacked and counted appropriately. The usual “we’ll have to go above and beyond for our team” is being thrown around. I’m only scheduled as 32 hours a week, but I’m scared if I decline working extra I’ll be fired. I rarely stay late or do over time. Can they even require it?
Scolded at work
Why is this okay? I’m almost 60 years old and I got scolded for something I did that was not intentional, didn’t hurt anyone, didn’t put a bad light on the company, etc. There’s a difference between discussing the matter professionally and being scolded. I’m not a child. I work in a small company that doesn’t even have a real HR person… and the senior staff blatantly favors certain people who get away with not doing their jobs. The only reason I stay is that I have incredible health insurance benefits (I’m in the US) and can’t get Medicare till 65.
I (28F) started a new job at a small company about three months ago. For context, I have about 7 years of experience in another field but left due to health reasons. I took a few months off to rest and decided to look for a part time job, which is how I landed here. These health reasons will affect me for the rest of my life, which is important for the story. (My new boss is unaware of this.) The job ad stated Wednesday through Friday, 8-5, $17/hour. Perfect for me as I was looking for 3 days a week. It was listed as warehouse and delivery work. I took the job and I genuinely enjoy it. However, I have started taking on more responsibility including some accounting, inventory, and sales, on top of my daily delivery route. Fine by me, I like to be productive, but I’m aware…
My new response whenever a retail or foodservice employee apologizes to me for anything.
A Brits Resignation?
I'm not sure how to approach this because lots of stuff is going on in my life right now and I don't know if I'm rushing things so I'm here for help and to vent. So I started at this new place after accepting the role at the end of may this year. I was waiting for a security pass to join up until last Tuesday when I started. I had a decent job at Costco but the late sporadic shifts were getting to me. Now I'm by no means well educated since I only did college but I'm definitely not stupid. I learn fast and like to think my potential shows really well, I hope this doesn't sound like I'm projecting too much but here we go. So before I started I had to deal with a guy who I'll call Steve now Steve was alright to deal with…
Is reedit censoring us?
