I wish that I could rent an apartment on a part-time salary. Maybe everyone should be able to.

I'm really enjoying my new job at the grocery store. My sleep health according to my Fitbit has skyrocketed since I quit full-time work. I actually mostly like my coworkers, I really do feel like we're working together and accomplishing something somewhat meaningful and appreciated. It's been good for my self-esteem and mental activity to interact with customers, remember where things are on the shelves and do the various tasks associated with my position. I'm very fortunate that I can barely eek out a living $11/hr, 30hr/week with just minutes of commute. However my roommate is wanting to finally get his boyfriend to move in. I also pretty much only have reign over my one bedroom, which because of the minute size, is so easy to get messy. I think having my own place would be best for everyone. I have been trying to find a place with my sibling…

What is your preference between these two and why?

The 5 days a week 8 1/2 hour shifts or the 4 days a week 10 1/2 hour shifts. Not sure if I want to apply for this custodian job thats a wed-sat 5pm-3:30am so I wanna get your opinions on the 4-5 day schedules because I have done both not on the fence about it.

On the topic of chairs

I'm an American and I've traveled a lot, mostly in Latin America. Cashiers and customer facing employees seemed a lot happier and more genuinely content than the usual fake stuff you get in the USA and can clearly tell they're miserable. The most obvious difference I noticed was that they were all sitting. Cashiers would usually stand up to help a customer and then sit back down, both in small businesses and large American chain stores. I chatted up a cashier in Colombia and mentioned that in the USA cashers aren't allowed to sit, he laughed at me and then said “I don't get the joke.” and I'm like “no joke,” and he said “you serious? my back would be gone before I'm 30 if I didn't die first.” I told him that was just the norm here and he just shook his head and said “you guys are crazy.”…

A cage is still a cage

I kept thinking today how ridiculous this whole system is. You are born to work your whole life until you are old and develop chronic diseases and can’t really enjoy life anymore. And somehow we all accepted this. I work 40 hrs a week and I still can’t start saving money cause everything is so effing expensive. My rent, my car, insurances, phone, internet, gym membership, gas, food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products. I’m single and when I think about all the above it’s obvious that most people HAVE to be paired up cause otherwise it’s really hard to cope financially. T try o afford your own place. To afford having a child. I’m really devastated by the fact that I can’t AFFORD to have children as a single person. Wtf?? I pay for an access to healthcare monthly but I’m still paying copay on top of this. Wtf? I…

Ah- the short staffed curse

Ever notice how when someone quits/leaves/gets fired management more than likely never fills their position which forces the staff to pick up the extra work? Even when I changed industries I noticed they aren’t in a rush to find someone to fill that position. They want a two week notice yet they literally do not use that period of time to fill the vacancy so what’s even the point? I also had a flash back of one of my former bosses having such a fucking attitude when I gave them the respect of a two week notice

The numbers don’t add up

Minimum Wage where I live: $16.25/hr Wage being offered by most McCompanies: $15.00/hr (1492/mo after taxes) Average rent on a bachelor apartment: $2000 Average McCeo salary: $20M WHy dOesN’t aNyONe WaNt to WoOrK? Beeeeeeeee cause they literally can’t? Because as a landlord you want to keep raising the rent but as a business owner you want to keep dropping the wages, and eventually there will be no labour in your market? I mean dang even early industry knew that; it’s why they offered housing as part of their payment package
